reckon accounts 2015 cannot communicate with server

Updated Reckon Accounts 2015 to all computers with one as a host now I cannot open the company file over the network. I have added exceptions to the fire wall and also tried disabling the firewall but I still cannot open the company file on any computers except the host. Please help.

Hello John

Just confirm you used port 10178 in the firewall exceptions, for the new version.

The install on the host version was with the the Company File Server.

Hi John,

Have you double checked that no other computers are set to host? (File > Utilities).

Also is the database server manager running and it has searched on the file locations?

Thanks for your reply. We now only have Reckon accounts on 2 computers. Only 1 is hosting. We have tried disabling the fire wall on both computers and the data base server manager is running on the host computer but we still cannot connect the 2nd computer to the company file.

Believe it or not, I finally got the second computer to communicate with the host computer by setting both computers to host. This is completely different to all of the previous versions of Reckon Accounts & QuickBooks that I have used over the past 9 years. Previously only the computer where the Company File was stored was set to host.

I hope that this is of use to any one else with the same problem.

Having 2 computers hosting the datafile can slow down the performance, so the ends does not necessarily justify the means.

Try these steps:
Check firewall setup on the server:

These Services should be running and have startup set to automatic on the SERVER:
QBFCMonitorService
QuickBooksDB24

The same services should be stopped and have the startup set to disabled on the WORKSTATIONS

On the server, delete the .nd files and rescan the folder with the Database Server Manager to recreate them
