Can't restore Reckon Accounts Premier 2015 backup to Reckon Accounts Premier 2016 version.

I am using Windows 10 and backed up originally onto a flash drive, then it kept wanting me to put a disc in and wouldn't get past that so I copied the backup onto a disc; still no luck so I copied the backup to the desktop. When trying to use the desktop backup it just sends me back to the "No Company Open" screen without restoring. Can anyone help please?

Hi Anne. Quite frankly I never use the backup option for the desktop version. Instead I just copy the original file to another place. For me that works much better. I keep files for each version in a separate directory on my hard drive e.g. 2015 data files; 2016 data files etc. You don't need a backup file to do the upgrade. If you still have the original 2015 file, at least copy that to another directory (e.g. called backup files), so that it is available if you have further problems. Then if you maintain a your data files in separate directories for each year, copy the 2015 file into your 2016 directory and point the upgrade to the file in the 2016 directory. I have never ever had a problem doing it this way and it saves me a lot of time having to do backups as copying a file is much quicker than doing a backup.

HI Anne,
Can I clarify? You have (eventually) been able to make a backup of your 2015 premier file to your desktop and then attempted to restore it using Premier 2016? That is, you haven opened Premier 2016 and selected the open/restore company option, selected the backup on your desktop and it gives you the error 'No company open'?
Generally, when you get the insert a disc option its because an external drive has been selected and it either hasn't been inserted correctly or there isn't enough room to do a backup (running from the old days when we used to backup to multiple discs for large files). Backing up to the desktop is exactly what I would have done.
Hopefully Kevin can help you out if you have any further trouble.0 -
Hi John,
Are you regularly verifying your data? If you are creating a copy of the file, if there's an bug in the file it will exist in previous versions as well.0 -
Good point Shannon. I do carry out periodic rebuilds. John L G

Hi all, thanks for your replies. John, to copy 2015 file to 2016 version I would need to have a 2016 company file created, wouldn't I?
Kevin, I can't access 2015 as it says it has been updated. Is there any way I can access to get another backup in case the one I have is corrupted? I tried to call you and will try again later.
Shannon, Your first paragraph is correct, except I didn't have any trouble making the back up on the flash drive, then when it wouldn't restore and I couldn't access 2015 to get another backup, I copied from the flash drive to the disc and then the desktop.
I feel like I'm forgetting something but have got myself so confused now with the QuickBooks / Intuit files and folders.

Thanks Kevin. I particularly do this at the time of upgrading. In days gone by there was a specific instruction from Reckon that a rebuild should be done three times after upgrade and I have stuck with this. Not sure if that is still the case, but I do it as a matter of habit now. I have seen instances where a data problem was only fixed after that third rebuild, as strange as that might seem. John L G1

HI Anne. The 2016 company file is created by upgrading the 2015 file. John L G0
