Display item code in invoice

When you set up an item, there is the option to allocate an item code. But I cannot locate an option under Settings to get this item code to display in the invoice.
I'd prefer not to put this in the description as I want to use the code for the purchase order number and the description for the name of the item.
Any suggestions?

    When you create an invoice or just click on a customer invoice you have already entered, at the top of the Invoice tab you will see a customise button, click on that, then click on additional customisation, click on columns bar, there you will find the Item, then click on the box to print the item.  I hope this helps.
