Hi does anybody know how to import budgets into Reckon Accounts Hosted from Excel file?

Of course. They tell you how to create budgets but not how to import already populated Excel spreadsheet. I also phoned Reckon Technical Help, who told me you cannot import budgets created in Excel into Reckon at all. I was dubious of that answer so thought I'd check with the community.

Hello Kevin as I have a vested in this subject too, I am also with Maria to think that it could be done in this day and age.. Your answer of looks like youre in trouble would make me want to change softwares.

Hello Kevin, and I am well and truly with you on that one, changing softwares is for marketers not for real life as the general business owners have no idea what can and does go wrong in the background. I would like to see Reckon back at the top of the pack again. However that comment wasnt at all necessary especially to someone who is trying to achieve something - and I didnt say I would change I said a comment like that would make me want to change softwares.

Hello Maria, Pam.

There is no direct way to import a Budget from Excel to Reckon Accounts. However, you can export a budget template from Reckon Accounts to an IIF file (File > Utilities > Exports > files to IIF > Budgets), open it in Excel, replace the values with your values from Excel, save the file as an IIF file and import it back into Reckon Accounts (File > Utilities > Import > IIF files).

This leads to another query as iif files arent that common - how do you save the file as an iif file when bringing it back into the data file. I have tried this before and gave up.

Hi Pam,

In Excel, always choose to save the file in its original format - TXT . Then in Windows Explorer rename the TXT file extension to IIF.

I am trying to do the same thing. However my budget file has 10 years of data and exports / imports all of that; is there a way to amend the file (either in Reckon or in the IIF file) so that I can make it smaller.

Also I have noticed that the export start date is always 1 January so that for a 1 April balance date, 2 lines are required (ie one starting 1 Jan 2018 for Apr-Dec 18 and one line starting 1 Jan 19 for Jan-Mar 190. Can you manipulate the file to say start date 1 April 2018? (this does not seem to work for me neither).

Hi,
i am doing exactly as you say and Reckon says - Your data has been imported, but when i check the budget, the figures are still the old figures.
I only wish to import some of hte budgets - some have already been entered manually.
Do i have to delete the entire budget before importing?
