How do I link a fixed asset to a customer job?

I have entered a bill and created a fixed asset as an item, but when I go back into the bill it won't let me link the transaction to a customer job.  The drop-down function under Customer Job is not available. 

Is there a way to do this? Every purchase in our system is linked to a job.

    Every transaction is linked to a job so we can report all costs/revenue assigned to the job.

    A fixed asset is owned by the businesz. It is NOT an expense.
