when I logon to Reckon hosted I get a message saying the data needs to be updated for the 2019 edition which we have been using for a year now?

Hosted 2019 was only made available this week Robert... so you would have been using the 2018 version. Once your final pay for this year has been completed - you can select the green launch button for 2019 R2 and upgrade your file and lodge your final STP for the year.
