Default file to open Quicken

My personal plus will only open automatically with a data file on a UBS stick.

If I chose an up to date file on my hard drive, the program works, but when I close it, and start up again, it asks me if I am a new user, and I have to direct the program back to the file I want to use. And, when I do go to back up, the program then crashes and no back up occurs.

Why will the program only work properly, both opening and backing up, with the file on the UBS stick?
