Reckon Home and Business V31


hi,
I’m new to this but please bear with me. I have been with Reckon/Quicken for nearly 30 years, but realised I’ve got this programme on one computer and if it goes down, I’m in a bit of a mess. So to be safe , I bought a new Windows laptop, bought also an extra Reckon licence ( $290) and eventually installed the program this morning , with some help from Reckon. I want to save the b/up file to a USB on the major computer and then update the one on my laptop via the saved file on the USB. Trouble is, it doesn’t seem to recognise the rkn file, but seems to recognise the QDF files saved with the rkn files so I’m perplexed as to the difference of these files.
Can anyone walk me through step-by-step how I continue to keep my laptop Home and Business 31 updated via the USB file saved fro the major computer and the difference between these two files ?

Hi Mike, Firstly when you save a backup it's a .rkn file if you want to install that on another machine you need to restore not open but restore the .rkn file.

Well, thank you so much Gerry !- you walked me though this, which appeared to me quite a difficult exercise and now after your expert tutoring , I have a much clearer idea of what I’m doing and more importantly the steps to open the file , and where to store it. Also the idea of shortening the rkn file name is a great idea. So thanks very much for your help and input.

Having difficulties installing latest version of home and business V31 annual licence. Where to from here? I get the message Can't create output file; C:\Temp\Reckon_Accounts_Personal _V31_R1\HAB\Disk1\Setup.
