How many Hosted users and licences are needed

I am considering moving from desktop to Hosted.

I have 5 users but only need a minimum of 2 using at a time - 3 preferred.

1 user is full administration and 4 have varying limits on their access. Eg not all can access payroll.

How many licences would i need.

It's one user = 1 licence with Hosted.

They'll have their own login and their own MFA

    Thanks for reply Eric

Wow. Thats 5 licences. Thats some hefty fee increase from desktop where we have 5 concurrent users at a time.

    @AndrewC

You have learned a valuable lesson

Hosted has its place but its not the solution for every problem

You can use Reckon with terminal services

That would be my suggestion. Its a one off capital cost for the CALS and no ongoing license fees.

There are also a number of alternatives to Terminal Services

Unfortunately, the reason it's so costly is because - unlike desktop - Reckon has to pay per-user for the platform access 😬 however @AndrewC If you want to email me with your details, I can contact Reckon & see what they can do as they will usually be able to offer a discounted fee in your situation. (It will still probably be more than what you're paying now - again, due to the above - but not as much as 5 times the standard user fee)

Terminal services is still a cheaper option. Once you go hosted you cant go back to desktop so it's probably worth exploring the alternatives

I have windows essentials as OS for server, which does not appear to allow remote hosted access. I would need to update my entire system if I chose to go to terminal server.

Looks like I'm stuck with desktop.

Just hoping to change because file is large so opening is slow and as we use Pro Timer we are constantly needing to go to single user mode.

I would think the fastest response would be with desktop so you are not relying on your internet, many people complain of slow speeds. Hard to know if this is because of their internet or Reckon servers or large file

    Still worth considering

Hosted definitely isn't a silver bullet. I use all the systems and it can easily vie for the slowest of them all. Especially with a large file. Hosted is an expensive option after two to three users for little productivity gain.

An alternative to Terminal services is TS-PLUS. You can trial this and see if it suits. Cheaper than upgrading your server

@AndrewC Some large-volume users choose to start a new company file once it gets too big. For some, that might be every 2-5 yrs, for others, it’s something they do annually, so that may be a more suitable option ? 😬
