Hi Guys,

Downloaded the Reckon Accounts Plus 2025 update - I assume thats "Reckon_Accounts_Business_Range_v34_R1"?

Anyway, when I click on the .exe file, I get this error msg - "This app can't run on your PC".

What's going on?

Thanks, Rob

Sounds like something on your PC is preventing the installation of it 🤔

    Anti-Virus or maybe permissions/security settings?

    Hi again Shaz!

Thanks for your reply, but nope, I've tried turning my virus protection off - same error msg.

I would go back to scratch go to your members site download the link from the members site follow all the prompts all the way through Let the wizard do the installation for you and it should work out OK

If you still have problems give me a call.

Sorted it - I wasn't waiting long enough for the .exe file to download before trying to open it.

Installed no troubles, but I've now got a new problem.

When I try to activate the new installation, it says the 6 digit activation code supplied "appears to be invalid".

I recall this has happened many times before, resulting in the dreaded phone call to Reckons "help" line 😂 Any suggestions?

Are you “copy & paste”-ing it ? Make sure there are no extra spaces at the start or end of it 😬

Yep & yep. Very frustrating. And Reckon has the hide to raise their annual charge to $800 … just for the new tax tables and change the Super rate to 11.5% !

I'd kick em to the kerb if I could, but you can't because your entire lifes financial records are invested with them. Grrr.

I hear you but unfortunately, most businesses have annual price increases for their products & services - It’s a bit of a Catch 22 situation, as prices need to go up to cover these increased costs … & Reckon’s no different.

There’s other new features, bug fixes & enhancements too though 😬

It always baffles me that business owners will spend a fortunate on other areas of their business but don’t see the value in their accounting software 🤔 This is what drives a business’s success - ensures it can meet obligations, know it’s financial position, identify where the business is doing well & what needs improving … & - most importantly - who owes you money! 😬

Reckon Accounts has sooooo much in it that can really help save time AND money … but most users are unaware of many of the amazing tips, tricks & advanced features (the classic “you don’t know what you don’t know” 😔)

Just on search & reporting alone, no other accounting product comes close to RA’s functionality 😊

The other important point to note is that Reckon Accounts is the old Intuit QuickBooks program, for which Reckon have the exclusive license to develop for the Australian market. However, because it’s not their own product, they only have the base coding so there are some things that they are unable to change as they’re built-in to that 😬
Despite limitations, Reckon have introduced some great features over the years though … & are committed to continuing. They’re always open to new-feature ideas & suggestions & take on board user feedback. Compared to their competitors, Reckon are very responsive to both feedback & issues. It’s important to keep in mind that nothing’s foolproof & sometimes technology can behave unexpectedly but Reckon is very prompt in addressing problems when they arise 👌🏻😁

Feel free to email me direct, if you need 😊

Yep, I'm hearing you too Shaz. I'm just a bit frustrated with Reckon atm.

I started out with Quicken on the recommendation of my accountant - crikey it must've been late 1980's or early 1990's.

Back then, we paid for the product once only - about $150 😂 - with the promise of free annual updates.

Now it's 2025 - my one-off investment of $150 has been sold, or otherwise traded, to a whole different mob who've changed the rules, and now charge $800/pa to tweak a couple of details every year.

If I don't comply, all my history will be unavailable, short of printing it all and manually re-entering it into an alternative program.

It smacks of good old Hell's Angels Kings Cross protection rackets.

At least if you paid the Angels their protection money, you know you'd be good.

Pay these fools, and they're still threatening me with "two more tries or your dust"!

Maybe I'm over-egging it all - but why is it never easy with Reckon?

Back then, it was an outright purchase so you “owned” the software.
These days, everything is SaaS (Software as a Service) so payment is annual, for the right to use the product (Think Microsoft, Adobe, Dropbox, Apple etc) 😩

Reckon has always been the sole, exclusive provider for the program here in Australia. It was never sold off 😁

However, then Intuit decided they wanted to bring their own “QuickBooks Online” to the Australian market. Whilst they continued the agreement giving Reckon full licence to develop it, they wouldn’t allow them to continue using the “QuickBooks” name, so that’s why it was changed to “Reckon Accounts” - It’s still the same QuickBooks program that it was originally, Reckon just had to re-brand it 😊

There’s a lot more compliance now than back in the early days though & accounting software providers have very stringent govt requirements for developing their products in line with that. They have a LOT of hoops to jump through, in order for them to be “approved” as compliant 😬

To be fair, Reckon’s no more expensive than their competitors in that regard (& in many scenarios, actually cheaper) with more product options 😁
