Hi

How do I check if my question was answered by Sam?

Curious if not answered , if others had questions not answered either?

Thanks

    Hi @Tilley

Sam did a great job in the AMA with answering as many questions as he could but you’re right - your question wasn’t answered in the AMA thread. That’s my oversight, not Sam's, as I intended to split your question off into its own post for more of an in-depth chat which wasn't suited to the AMA post. I missed doing that and I do apologise, it was our very first AMA so we were learning as we go but nonetheless it should have been acknowledged.

With that said, I'm more than happy to address your question which I'll add below.

Why haven't Reckon addressed the company file size issue with a simply archive old data like other programs have.

We have been with Reckon since 2006 and our company file is huge.

There are clean ups etc but non of these really make the company file significantly smaller?

Reckon's solution start a new file and export etc old data as just start up figures.

I'm sorry isn't a solution and is time consumable means running 2 sets of books at the same time while you set up the so called new company? But this involves paying for a 2nd licence!

    Thanks

You’re right, company files that have been in use over many, many years can become very large depending on the volume of data if your lists, transactions and so on. We have resources available that can help you take realistic steps to reduce data file size along with regular file maintenance steps to keep things running as smoothly as possible which I'll link below.

I'm not aware of the specific details of your file but for files that have been active for nearly two decades such as what you've mentioned, there is a point where creating a new file may become a realistic option. I appreciate that might feel daunting, but it is a step that ensures performance, stability, and future reliability. It’s not a step we recommend lightly — but for very VERY large files, it can often be a viable long-term solution.

Have you had a chat with our Data Services team in relation to your file as yet?

    Hi Rav,

I only really wanted to know if Reckon was going to address this issue in the future without having to make a whole new company file.

I have done all of the suggestion offered by Reckon and helpful Reckon community members and this didn't make the file significantly smaller.

I did look into starting a new file but things we use were not exportable, things like memorised transaction. We simply did not have the time or resources to input the things that could not be easily exported.

To be honest when I looked into what could and couldn't be exported, I thought it would be just as easy to start again.

Then I realised I couldn't work on the new company file without other staff being unable to access the current company file! Even having 2 licences wouldn't solve this issue.

In the near future it looks like we will be splitting the company into 2 businesses and will need 2 company files that hopefully make both files much smaller.

Thes files need able to work side by side on the same computer?

I believe this is not possible with Reckon but would it be possible on another licence each business ran Reckon on a different computer?

A potential solution from my accountant who is MYOB based is to put the 2nd business on another software.

    Thanks for replying

    Cheers
