I have been trying to do a backup 2025 (4 times actually starting Wednesday night) and each time it says right at the end, that it couldn't backup. This morning I started one at 6.20am left here at 8.45 and it was still going. When I got back the system was down and I checked my B drive and there was a file there QBTempBackup.tmp presuming this means it didn't finish backing up?. My concern is, if I can't complete a backup how do I roll over to the 2026? (I am going to come in tomorrow and try again). Await any advice. Thanks Glenys
How big is your file @Glenys?
Do you usually backup throughout the year?
Not sure on the size, and unfortunately I have not done many backups during the year (been meaning to do so every Saturday but end up catching up on all the other work I am behind in)
It's hard to say but I'm guessing your file might be pretty large.
This is one of the reasons why I like to do frequent backups and rebuilds so that it doesnt hold things up.
You might want to verify and rebuild your file 3 times in succession. I leaned that trick here on this community and it's been a godsend
Have you got the complimentary Reckon Enterprises on your computer. You are entitled to it and you download your file to your computer and open it in the desktop version and do the backup from there and then upload to Hosted. āhappy to help if you more info
I have tried all weekend to back up and it gets to 97% then fails. Verifying data is all good, the the back up has taken over 6 hours on Saturday then failed, today I have tried twice first time failed around 5 hours, then second time failed around 4 hours.
Kris, no I haven't got Reckon Enterprises on my computer, but unsure about downloading the file to the computer wouldn't that take just as long? I am still in the office after being here before 6 this morning, so I am going home, but would appreciate some help tomorrow and any ideas will be appreciated.
Thanks Glenys
Tried again this morning failed after 2 1/2 hours, I'm hopeful it may backup next time, as the time it takes comes further down? (or is that wishful thinking?)
Downloading the file to the computer would not take as long as backing it up, and backing it up on a local computer would be quicker than backing it up from Hosted
Have you tried turning off verify data in the backup options first_
I tried 3 times again from late afternoon yesterday, and yes I turned the verify data off the last two times, got down to around 1 1/2 hours, but failed again at 97%. (I am finding my system is working at alot better though, so tidying up 97% is helping).
My biggest concern at the moment is the payroll and I am thinking that should I get just the payroll 2026/2027 separately, so that I can process the pays. I have already submitted my EOFY STP and it was successful, so at least that is done. (I'm not here from Friday till Monday and once I return I will try backing up again), but I need to be able to process the pays tomorrow including last weeks. Await advice, thanks Glenys
I would process the pays in 2025 and manually change the tax or just leave as is I believe they were only minor tax changes
I thought about processing pays in the 2025 and tax isn't a problem as already worked out what tax to pay in my wage sheet that I do, it is that the Qualifying Earnings column isn't there. I thought it had to be?
I would be happy to help you by downloading the file and trying the backup if you were comfortable allowing me to login
It is important to determine how large your QBW and TLG files are.
You can use the My Files tool to locate and identify the size of your QBW and TLG files.
Using the My Files tool in the New Hosted Platform: Upload, Download, and Search Guide - Reckon Help and Support Centre
Users who do not backup regularly may have very large TLG files which can result in delays, especially if the QBW file is also very large.

I tried to backup again this morning and no luck. Kris I am interested with your offer of help re downloading, happy to have you login just wondering re timeframe of not being able to use the system. I have managed to do all but one order going out tomorrow. At the end of the day I need to be able to rollover and the sooner the better. Await your earliest reply. Thanks
Have you determined how large the QBW and the corresponding TLG file are?
Sorry but I can't work out how to find that out
Hi @Glenys
In a post further up, the following guides were provided.
I'm sorry, but even looking at the notes 'Using the My files tool' I'm not sure what I am looking for. I found a QBW.INI dated today at 1.01pm 1.7kb, there is also a qbbackup.sys dated today at 12.48pm 3.8kb. Can't find a TLG file at all.

First open your data file on the Accounts 2025 application.
To find out the exact name and location of the data file that you are working on follow this guide.
How to view the Product Information screen for Reckon Accounts desktop and Reckon Accounts Hosted - Reckon Help and Support Centre
Then you can use the My Files tool to locate and identify the size of your QBW and TLG files.
I have been trying to help @Glenys but I was unable to download her qbw file which is 2.7gb and her tlg file was 82mb. I renamed the tlg to old and tried to backup without verification, but that didnāt work either.
When trying to download her file the message was āSomething went wrong while processing your request. Please try again or contact supportā¦ā¦ā
I tried again same message. Anyone got any suggestions ?
Hi @Kris_Williams
To help resolve the issue with downloading and backing up the QBW file, please follow the steps below.
Ensuring File Access
If the file is currently in use, it will prevent a successful download.
Make sure all users are logged off the data file before proceeding.

thank you, yes my first choice was to download the file and backup on Desktop version but the file wouldnāt download. I will try again tonight when they are finished using it.
I managed to download the file after a few tries, was not able to backup on PC but fortunately after a few tries it still asked if I wanted to update to 2026 so that went well.
Had a few attempts at uploading the file, which eventually I did, but I decided to upload to the Temporary folder, only to find out that you canāt access anything in this folder. Which makes me wonder why itās there because this file was 2.7gb and it took hours.
Fortunately i managed to upload again and all is working fine. However I am still unable to backup, so @Glenys may have to contact support after all. But at least they can move along with wages now and super
Good one Kris, awesome effort.
2.7GB sounds like an awfully big file. Wouldn't it be more prudent to start a new file starting this new financial year? It sounds like it's just something that will keep happening at that size
Yes I agree but not my client to make suggestions, just helping out a frustrated user. But I will suggest to her when she calls me on Monday. Been there done that so. totally understand the frustration.
Thank you Kris for all your help with downloading, uploading and going to the New 2026. It has been a trying time and your help and what you achieved has been amazing. Payroll worked perfectly and finally got the last two weeks pay over to the ATO! Its been great talking to you and as we discussed I will be chatting with the boss re starting a new file. Once again thank you and I have appreciated everything you have done to help me out.
all good, Glenys, glad to be of help.
