How impossible is it to open a 2018 quickbook file without knowing the admin password

Unfortunately, it's not possible to upgrade the file without the Admin login to a company file.
There are a few things to try first:

Thankyou for you reply, have tried 1 above, unable to find an old password for admin as the business changed to xero then back to Reckon.
Was hoping there was another work around
Don't fret - the Data Recovery/Password Removal team are experts at what they do, and provide quick and efficient service. You can rely on them to get the password removed, and your file can be upgraded after you receive it back from them.
What is the best way of going about this, is their an email, or phone or form etc

Unfortunately that form link is for Reckon products not a quickbook product
Reckon used to be Quickbooks (we split in 2013) - if it's a .QBW, we can remove the password from it.

@BeefAustralia Are you planning to upgrade your 2018 version, if not you need to ask if the file will still be in that format after they work on it, otherwise it may not be worth it
We went from quickbooks to xero in 2018 and in 2022 back to Reckon. I would like to access the file if possible.
you will be able to access it I’m sure I was just a bit concerned when you said 2018 version
Its a 2018 file, I have been able to restore it on an old laptop with a old quickbooks program. The program is licensed to a different business. Once I restored it I went through every password I could find at Beef as there are all new staff but no luck

How do I go about getting the password removed
As mentioned previously, you need to fill in the Data Recovery form provided in previous posts to get in touch with the Data Recovery team, who can remove the password.
