How to recover files?

I paid my renewal, but was unable to update my subscription. I contacted Reckon and was advised as I had Home and Business 2022, I would have to uninstall that version and install Business v31. I was advised that all my files would automatically transfer across.

I did the uninstall and the new install. None of my current files for my various entities came across. All I can seem to get are files with entries up to 2009.

Please advise what I can do to recover those files. Unfortunately, I do not have a recent backup.

Bob

    Hi @Bob_9147185,

Sorry to hear the upgrade to Busines V31 didn't go as expected for you. I will try my best to help you locate the files that were previously used in your Home and Business 2022.

Your data files will still be located somewhere on your computer, you just need to find them and open it to upgrade to your newest V31, once you do that you should be able to continue where you left off.

Please try the default file location and see if your files are located here: C:\Users<YourUserName>\Documents\Quicken\

Let me know how you go!

    Hi Lucas,

The Documents/Quicken file only has 2 files - a .HCX and a .QEL file. Both are from 2017

    Hi @Bob_9147185

Would you like to share with the 'Community' how @GerryWinter solved your problem?

This is how the Community learns to understand RPP.

    Cheers

Gerry took control of my computer. He searched and searched and couldn't find the current files - just old ones. Gerry was becoming quite concerned - as I was and had been. Eventually he found the relevant files and restored them.

The 'hit and miss' approach? Or, was there some logic to it?

@John_8305976 it sounds like it's just a case of not knowing where the live file was saved.

    Happy to be corrected

    Hi @Eric Murphy

As I understand the workings of RPP, the โ€˜workingโ€™ set of files for any given Reckon Data File(QDF), by default, reside in the directory location from which the QDF file is opened. So, following that logic, I reckon, (pardon the pun), @GerryWinter would have found the QDF file in that location. Unless, @Bob_9147185 had shifted that working set of files(QDF, QPH, etc) to somewhere else, since he last used RPP.

Are you going to tell us, Gerry?๐Ÿ˜Š

    Cheers

I did find these files buried deep in an external drive.
