Reckon Accounts Premier 2014
We have an old server that runs an old copy of Reckon. We have a need to keep the server and the data, however being conscious of security vulnerabilities we would like to upgrade the server and the Reckon software. I am assuming from the upgrade documentation that this is doable. What I am trying to determine is will we have ongoing costs if we only want to upgrade for security purposes? I don't want to lose access to the data if I no longer wish to sign up for the subscription model and we no longer use Reckon ongoing. I hope that like in 2014 we have the software installed on our desktop and if we no longer subscribe we just don't get updates and we don't lose access to the software.
If somebody has some insight that would be great.

You can download a trial version of Reckon that will enable you to access your data but not to be able to enter transactions. Otherwise it is a yearly subscription

Unless it has changed, the Hosted version allows month-by-month subscription & access, so you can cancel & just reactivate for a month at a time, as needed 🤔😊
NOTE: This is only for Hosted so you would need to upgrade your file to that platform first.

Hi Michelle,
Yes, upgrading is possible, but whether you incur ongoing costs depends entirely on whether your licence is perpetual or subscription-based. If you upgrade to another perpetual desktop version like your 2014 setup, you will retain long-term access to the software and data even without future payments. You simply won’t receive new updates or payroll compliance changes. In this case, you will not lose access to your historical data.
If you’re on a subscription-based product, the newer models, including Reckon Accounts Hosted and some later desktop editions, operate on a subscription licence. If your subscription ends, the software itself may stop functioning and you may lose access to the program, though you can usually still export or access your data before cancellation. Upgrading within a subscription environment generally means ongoing annual or monthly costs.
I hope this helps!
