How to fix the position of items showing in reports?

Hi,

In our item listing, any new items added can be manually moved into the preferred position in the list (alphabetical). However, when I run any item related report (eg. sales by item summary, inventory status listing), all my newly added items sit at the top of the report. How can I change this? See snip of an example of the sales by item summary report. The item highlighted in red should be where the red dash is. Same for the item highlighted in yellow. The 3rd and 4th items in the report are also new and sitting in the wrong order.

Do you Verify your company file regularly ?

Run the Rebuild x 3 (For some reason, three rebuilds can fix a lot of things!) 🤞🏻

Reports will usually generate lists in their current (real-time) order.

You can click on any column heading to quickly sort a list by that column. A little black triangle icon on a column header identifies a manual sort order (& the arrow direction indicates whether the list is ascending or descending) :

There is also a "Re-sort List" option in most Lists that will return it to its default (by type, then alphabetised) order 😁 :

Sort the list beforehand & when you generate a relevant report, it will show it in that order.

NOTE: A memorised report is memorised EXACTLY how you originally set it. Therefore, if you have memorised reports that are out of order, Re-sort - then re-Memorise them - to retain that view 😊

Hi Shaz,

I have tried doing that previously but the reports still don't display in the sorted view. Here I have sorted by name, and then ran the sales by item summary report. The first three items are new and aren't sorted at all.

Actually I tried sorting by type and it worked. But when I went back and sorted by name, it doesn't re-sort by name.

You may need to click the column heading twice - once to revert to default & again to filter the sort.

In alphabetical order, numbers will generally be at the top or bottom (depending on which way you sort) so that looks correct to me ? 🤔

Yes, alphabetically means that numbers will sort at the top which is what it has done in the item list, but in the sales by item summary report, the first item showing is CTK-52746. This should be sitting after item CTK-52733 in this report not right at the top.

Is it specifically an “Inventory”-type Item ? 🤔

Re-sort … the List (using the specific button) then regenerate the DEFAULT report (eg from the Reports dropdown menu)

It is an "inventory part" item. And I am using a default report, not a memorised one.

This wasn't a problem previously when I added new items to the inventory. It is probably in the last year that we have had this issue.
