Reckon Desktop very slow for some users not computers

We have fairly modern systems running the latest Reckon accounts. We have been through all the .TLG backup, portable file etc…. and the help we see online talks about windows 7 and not 10/11.

All our systems have solid state drives, the server hard drive bench marks at 2.1 Gigabytes a second, has a 10 Gigabit network card and switch to workstations with 1 Gigabit cards. The server only runs reckon and a extra folder share for a handful of documents. The network benchmarks at 96-98 Gigabytes/second from a workstation so network traffic and speed is not an issue. All workstations are identical in configuration and software. The datafile is around 1.4Gb and the TLG after backup is under 2Mb. File is in multi user mode. Workstations ran disk cleanup and deleted all temp files, defragmented etc etc. DB File fragments currently is 3.

The issue is one user Piper is complaining about speed of reckon, usually when recording Bills etc.

In this scenario i didn't get to bills but noted:

Piper logs into her computer Piper-Workstation with her username in reckon. From pressing ok takes 2 mins 47 secs for the screen to open and ready to use. It just sits blank for a while before all the reckon icons and stuff come up. while this is happening if anyone else tries to log in or do something it says the data file is in use and doing another operation.

Lily logs into her computer Lily-Workstation with her username in reckon. From Pressing OK takes 54 secs for the screen to open and ready to use. it comes up with a "Loading Data" box for most of it but the rest is open in the background

Running all the backup, portable file and back again had made very little difference to the times above.

I tried then using Lily's username on Piper-Workstation and it opened in 9 seconds, much quicker than Lily-Workstation with the same name, and doesn't come up with the "Loading Data" box

I tried then using Lily's username on Server and it opened in 8 seconds

I then tried Piper's username on Lily-Workstation and still is around 2 mins 40 seconds.

I then Tried Lily's username on Server and quicker but took 2 Mins 21 seconds. However till a long time. Using the system monitor the CPU, HDD, Memory load are all low and nearly idle.

There are about 4 other users but ive stopped here for now if i can sort this out.

So my question is.

Why is Lily's username slow on her computer only with a "loading data" but fast oh other workstations and server? what can i check?
Why is Piper's username super slow on all workstations and server and what can i check?

Any suggestions appreciated.

It sounds a peculiar one.

Has it always been this way for each of them?

Sounds like it’s not been installed as per the specific multi-install server instructions, for your particular setup 🤔

When Piper is logged in, are there multiple 'windows' displayed?

click on the Window menu and confirm how many windows are present
Example:

Can you check by clicking the Edit menu and then select Preferences, whether the Preference settings for the "Desktop View" is set to 'Save when closing company" or "Save current desktop" or "Don't save the desktop' (which one is set for Piper and which one is set for Lily)

For Piper, as a test, select the "Don't save the desktop" and click OK.

Then click on the File menu the Close Company

Then re-open the file again and login as Piper.

Confirm if there is any difference in the time that it takes from entering the username and password to when all things are loaded.

Perform the test above on the Piper-Workstation, Lily-Workstation and the Server.

Hi All,

With Lily. There were only 2 windows open. Home and reminders. I did check this as we had this usse before with a user having heaps of windows open.

When creating a new user a new user was fast. so then saw the message above.

Then for Piper selecting "Dont save the desktop" fixed the issue and the login is now around 6-8 seconds instead of 2 mins 40

In regards to Lily-PC we found the ethernet cable damaged behind a desk which intermittently was switching between 100 and 1000 Mbps.

You can set a default for all users not to save the. Desktop so they automatically close when logging out

Glad to hear that the recommendation to not save the 'desktop' has resolved the issue for the Piper username and that you have determined the contributing factor relating to the slowness on the Lily-PC
