Welcome letter from Colonial First State Confusing

Morning, I have just received my welcome letter from Colonial First State as I registered my interest for the Super Clearing House. However, the letter talks about Employer Super, Investment Options, Insurance Cover etc., I don't want to sign up my employees for Super but just want to use the Clearing House. Am I able to just do that?

Hi @Burnbaby,

You definitely should be able to sign up to just the clearing house for Colonial First State and you are not obliged to use it for anything other than clearing payments.

I believe it's just an information letter for you in regard to other services offered by Colonial First State.

I haven’t seen the letter myself yet, but it’s possible it’s just outlining other services they offer?

Let me see if I can confirm for you.

Here are the steps that you need to do in order to get set up for super

1. Sign up to FirstChoice Employer Super

If you previously registered your interest, simply complete the CFS sign-up form you'll shortly receive via email from us. Within 1–2 days, you’ll receive a welcome kit and registration certificate from CFS.

2. Create your clearing house account

Once you've signed-up, you will receive a registration link in your welcome kit to create your clearing house account. You can then log in to start making super payments.

3. Setup your Reckon Accounts Hosted file and items for SuperStream

Check out our step by step checklist to ensure your items and company file is setup and ready to creating a SAFF file that you can upload to Colonial's FirstChoice Employer Super Clearing House.

This is what i am doing for my client who is using QBO for payroll, Employer , and employees setup is required etc.

Hope fully i can finish the setup and do a test run

An update, I managed to phone Colonial and discuss this with them. The FirstChoice Employer Plan is just letting us know of the options available if you have an new employee that wants to choose super with Colonial. Don't have to do anything about this if you are just using Colonial as a clearing house. Hope this clears things up for anyone else who was confused :)

FYI - I imported a Saff file into QuickSuper and it brought over employee details and the amount for the period I entered. So no need to manually enter employees into the clearing house

I was able to submit my 1st live trial to Colonial Super clearing account, though submission took some time .

now payment has to be done by my client .

i used Quick super export , the client uses QBO for payroll

Hi, Question for those who submitted a file. Do you set up each super payroll item agency to which the liability is paid as the employee's super details? or Colonial Clearing?

Hi Kris, curious to know were you able to process super as you said , you did not have to enter employees details. My client has Colonial super fund itsself, but i still had to enter all employee once and other info.

And i have successfully submitted super .

no if I have all the employee info correct in Reckon Hosted and export a Saff file for the month of super I am wishing to upload, it takes all the employees over as well as the amounts

Right, so were you able to process any batch yet successfully?

Yes I did, the only problem I had was the SMSF employee. I had to create a supplier for his fund so I could add ABN and bank details then link it to the employee’s super fund. This is the only one who has a different super fund. All the rest are just linked to an item called super
