PayPal fees. Why is the rate advertised at 2.6% when we are paying 2.9%?

We have enabled credit card payments on our Reckon One invoices via PayPal. Reckon One advertises the rate as 2.6% plus a 30c fee.

I’ve just been checking through PayPal payments received back to August last year and for the entire time we have been paying more than this advertised rate.

I phoned Pay Pal who confirmed that the rate is actually 2.9% plus a 30c fee.

This is false advertising and we have paid a lot of extra money in fees without ever being aware of this.

What is Reckon One going to do to correct this and compensate us for all the extra fees paid out?

I received a message from Karren Labrador (Reckon staff) saying that the PayPal rates increased to 2.9% in February 2026 and that Reckon we’re just a little slow to make the updates. This message has since been deleted.

This is not actually the case. My history of PayPal payments goes back to 2/8/25 and when making calculations I can see that the rates have been 2.9% at least from this time if not earlier.

Thanks for your post - we understand why this has raised concerns, and we appreciate you taking the time to outline them.

First, we acknowledge that our Online Payments page is outdated and references a 2.6% + 30c rate that no longer reflects PayPal's standard pricing. We apologise for the confusion this has caused and are reviewing the page to ensure it is updated.

That said, based on your earlier Community post from 8 July 2025, it appears you were already aware that PayPal's applicable fee was 2.9% + 30c, including that these fees would need to be absorbed by the business once PayPal payments were enabled.

To clarify more broadly:

PayPal fees are set and charged directly by PayPal, not Reckon.
Reckon does not set or control PayPal's transaction rates.
The fee charged is determined by PayPal.
