Reason why assebly build may not be increasing inventory on hand

Question

Haven't used Reckon assemblies for years.  Client would like to know why his inventory doesn't increase when he runs an assembly build.  It used to work, see below.  I've check all the notes I can find but I can't find anything obvious.  I'm sure there must be something obvious.  Definitely not date related, nothing has been purchased after today's date.  Can't be component related as nothing has changed.  Build appears to go though correctly and there are no error messages.  Anyone using assemblies regularly will probably know the reason.

Once inventory shortages and pending builds have been accumulating for years, it usually becomes a historical inventory repair issue, rather than a simple build problem.

What often happens is 1 negative component creates another shortage later, which then snowballs through the file over time.

My suggestion would be rather than trying to perfectly repair 10+ years of history, instead:

* choose a clean cutoff date
* correct stock quantities from that point
* clear current pending builds
* & then enforce processes to prevent future negatives.

Selling assembly items before completing the build is commonly what starts the problem.

At this stage, focusing on getting stock accurate going forward is usually far more practical than trying to trace every historical shortage transaction-by-transaction 😬

Hi Shaz, your suggestions were very helpful and led me to the problem but every time I fix a component balance the same, or another, goes negative at a different date.  I tried all your suggestions for dates and rebuilds etc.  This has been happening since 2014 and it's a nightmare to find out where the component shortages were.  Some assembly items have been negative since they were first sold because the client didn't know the build was going into pending. I can't even fix those ones and I thought they would be simple.  I thought about creating new builds for the items that become pending but they still use the same components and will cause the same problem.  I could be here until Christmas trying to find the shortages.  What do people do when they come across this problem?

Thank you.  Some excellent points.  Never thought about historical balances.  I'll check that first.
