SAFF file not accepted - incorrect ABN

When I send my SAAF file to Colonial First Estate it gives message that all the ABN numbers for my employees are wrong and will not accept the file- I have attached a couple of screen shots and am pretty sure it is how I have set up the payroll item as that s the ABN number it is bringing up in the file before the fund names .

I cant see an area in the employee set up where i put the ABN for the superannuation fund -

Can you assist with this ?

you only need to enter an ABN if the superfund is an SMSF, in fact I dont think there is anywhere to enter an ABN in an individual’s super details.

@rykal123 It looks like Colonial is having trouble identifying the Super Funds.

You need a separate Super Payroll Item … PER Fund, PER Type eg

Thanks for the replies - if Colonial is having trouble recognising the ABN and I have to set up each one individually that's a bit annoying - imagine if I had a large number of employees - appreciate the feedback I wll look into it

You don’t have to setup EVERY Super Fund as a separate Supplier or Payroll Item … just a Payroll Item for each DIFFERENT one that’s in use for YOUR business.

How many employees do you have & which funds are they with ? Payroll Items should be generic (eg able to be used for any employee that they apply to)

Any that are being used exclusively for one Super Fund type (or employee) can remain, but just be re-named.

For instance where you ‘ve got “Super Fund Liam” as a SS Super - assuming that’s only been used solely for Liam’s SS - you can just re-name it to the Fund/Type name instead (eg “Future Smart (SS)” - TIP: Check how it displays in the clearing house as a guide for what specific name to call it)

For Liam’s SG Super, it looks like you’re just using the same default “Super” Payroll Item for everyone so if that’s the case, you can’t do the same with that one (as presumably it’s being used for all/multiple funds)

Then you just use (or create, if new) whichever Super Payroll Item is applicable to each employee 😁

💡💡💡 NOTE: The SAFF/file export option is NOT compulsory ! If preferred, you can still just continue manually entering the contributions (in Colonial) instead.

The SAFF/file export is similar to the STP “Upload” process, that’s all - It’s just an electronic reporting method. This feature has been in the program for years but is being promoted more now, just due to the increased frequency change (from mthly/qtrly > every payday) as this will be far more efficient than manual entry for those with many employees!

Thanks Shaz - I only have 7 employees so if its not compulsory I wont do the file upload - I will change my payroll items back to how they were - thankyou for the quick repsonse

Personally, I have always setup my Super Items per fund/type anyway as it keeps payroll breakdown sufficient … but without overkill ! 😊
