Printer not activated error code - 20

Hi Diane,
Sorry to hear of your issue.
This problem can occur when the Reckon Accounts printer drivers are sharing printer ports with other applications on your PC.
See our note at: https://community.reckon.com.au/reckon/topics/a9l45bkc1h76t to set your Reckon Accounts PDF converter to an independent port.
Hope this has you emailing quickly.
regards,
John

Thanks John, my only problem now is that I can't find the file splWOW64.exe in the processes tab. I'm running Windows 8.1 if that makes any difference. Look forward to hearing from you again. Thanks, Di0
-
Ah yes, Diane, Windows 8 has changed its location.
It is now at:
Background Processes > Spooler SubSystem App > Print Spooler;
and click the End Task button.
I've updated the reference on our Note.
Hope this now gets you emailing.
regards,
John

I have the same problem. All pdf converters have separate ports, but if I look at the available printers with reckon accounts open, there is no 'quickbooks V4 pdf converter' listed there. Is this wrong as I have tried all other options with no success. This problem only started happening since i updated from win8 to win8.1. Any help would be appreciated0
-
Hi Martin,
Sounds like the 'Quickbooks V4 pdf converter' could be hidden in the other printer or could be deleted.
If it was working on Windows 8 and not Windows 8.1, please try to run Reckon Accounts as the Administrator following the steps below.Set your Accounts Business 2013 launch icon to Run As Administrator:
1. Right click your icon > Properties > Compatibility
2. In the Privilege Level box, tick Run this program as an administrator
3. Click OK to close.
After that, open Reckon Accounts from the desktop icon, then try to email or save as PDF from Reckon Accounts again.

Hello Deny,
thanks for the reply but still no success.I tried to re-install from cd, the program started loading 'windows library' and then stopped and said it would no proceed any further.
Very frustrating.
Any ideas.

I followed the steps that John G gave me & now when I try to email it gives me the following message:
An internal error occurred while preparing your message. It has not been sent.
(MAPI error code 00000000 (0) at line 947 in sendemail.cpp)
Help please.Thank you
Di

Hi Diane,
Hmm, the source of this problem is elusive and has been experienced by only a few users with Outlook 2010. Is your email client Outlook 2010?You may be getting a Server Busy error and the option to select Retry or Switch to. Nevertheless the emails get created but remain in the Outlook 2010 Outbox and do not send.
If you go to Edit > Preferences >Online > Company Preferences, and make sure the option 'Display each email when sending more than one' is unticked.
Now restart your Accounts Business and try again.
Another source of this problem is sync-ing your Outlook Calendar with Google Calendar. Other users found when Google Sync was turned off, the problem did not occur.
If your problem persists there are a couple of other steps to try at:
http://www.quicken.com.au/kb/issue_view.asp?ID=4005Please let me know how this works out for you.

John

John, thank you so much, my problems are finally rectified.
I simply unticked the option on Company Preferences as suggested and am now emailing beautifully.
Thanks again
Di
ps. For your info, I'm running Outlook 2013.

I have done this now when I try to email my invoices out its making me save it to my computer then telling me quickbooks could not save this form as a pdf file0
-
Hey JessTiana, please try the below;
Set the PDF Converter to a separate printer port.
See https://community.reckon.com.au/reckon/topics/a9l45bkc1h76t for full details.
This article refers to the QuickBooks V404 PDF Converter for the current version. You will have either QuickBooks PDF Converter or QuickBooks V303 PDF Converter. Quicken users will have a Reckon or Quicken PDF Printer

UPDATE: I've just a chat with tech support and they advised that Win8 and QB 10/11 are not full compatible (as qb10/11 was released well before win8 not) try that step above, and those here: https://community.reckon.com.au/reckon/topics/running_older_versions_of_quickbooks_on_newer_technolo...
Note: versions before qb 2012/13 have limited success of success with newer Operating Systems: https://community.reckon.com.au/reckon/topics/7ixruj6aag7ax

The way we fixed it was to go into the control panel add/remove programmes select the reckon software press uninstall then the option to repair, install and follow prompts.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Reckon Accounts Plus 2014 missing email preferences.... under Edit> Preferences> My Preferences the option available is a tick box for automatically selecting email....
i don't seem to have the option to select a webmail client like gmail?
My invoices will not send via outlook???
Cheers
Alec

Hi Alec,
The option is related to within the software itself about selecting email and sending forms.
You cannot email through a webmail.
It should work through Outlook.
You need to ensure your Windows default settings pick up Outlook as your default email provider.
Kind regards,
Sally McIntosh

Hello Deny! We have the error code 20 - printer not activated. We tried your suggestion above to set Reckon Accounts to run as administrator. We are running Reckon Accounts Pro 2014 and Windows Pro 8.1. Now, whenever we want to change any settings on the computer or uninstall a program we get a window that asks if we want to allow QBDataServiceUser23 to make changes to the computer. To proceed we must enter the password. we don't have the password for that and apparently Reckon doesn't give it out. We tried to enable the built in administrator which was suggested by Vinia.Laguda@reckon.com without success. When we unticked the "Account is disabled "on the General tab of Administrators a window came up saying "Äccess is denied". I have sent her an email telling her we were unable follow her suggestion but had no answer.
We cannot uninstall Quickbooks to delete all the QBdataservice either as we have to have the password for QBDataServiceUser23 to do that.
We can however open and use our Reckon Accounts and log into the computer but just can't change any settings without that password.
I asked if the Quicken password removal service could remotely remove the QBDataserviceuser23 as an administrator, but they said no, that's not in their area.
I also tried to reverse your suggestion but was asked for the password for QBDataserviceuser23.
So we are stuck.
Any help would be much appreciated. Fran Percival1 -

Hi, I have had the same problem since updating my laptop to Windows 8.1, I couldn't send invoices from my Reckon Accounts Small Business 2013 and had the message 'Printer not activated error code -20'. I followed the above steps, and this did get rid of the 'code -20' message, but I was still getting two other pop up messages when I try to email - 'Could not print to printer' and 'Quickbooks could not save your form as a PDF file'. I went through all the steps again to make sure and still am receiving those two pop up messages and am unable to email invoices. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Ruby0

I am also still unable to resolve, windows updated to 8.1 and QB 2013 and cannot email invoices?? pls help0

Hi Filomena, the support articles in this thread are the best options that can be suggested. As Reckon Accounts 2013 was released much earlier than win 8.1 compatibility cannot be guaranteed. I suggest running through the steps available in the thread here. There's some users that have posted what has and hasn't worked for them. Alternatively, you may wish to seek out Telephone Support for one to one assistance.

can i just go back to win 80
-
I is easier to do that than a trial and error approach.0
-
If you had no issues with win8 and it is possible to reinstall - that should be a valid option.
