i need to upgrade from accounting plus 2006 to the latest version. What do I have to do?

You will probably be advised that  as you have the 2006 version you will have to go through the 2008 version first, a trial version of that can be downloaded and used for this.... and your consultant will help you with this....

Well if you were referring to the installation part and the upgrade of the current *.QBW file then firstly create a back up for the current file for the current version and follow instructions given in the installation guide for reckon accounts 2014.
