You can download historical ASX prices from the site below (free download)
http://www.asxhistoricaldata.com/

All the way back to 1997
http://www.asxhistoricaldata.com/archive/

These are ZIP archives containing a separate TXT file for each day of that week.

It is provided with the following information present.
Security Name, Date, Open, High, Low, Close, Volume
* The date is in YYYYMMDD format

Example:

AMC,20150323,14.7,14.7,14.47,14.55,2214918

You need to transform this data into a comma-separated format.
SECURITYNAME, PRICE, SEPARATOR, DATE(in DD/MM/YYYY), SEPARATOR, HIGH, LOW, VOLUME, END-OF-LINE
THE PRICE value would be the closing (Close) amount
The SEPARATOR consist of three dashes ---
The ENDOFLINE marker consist of an asterix *
The VOLUME value needs to be Volume/100

Example:

AMC,14.55,---,23/03/2015,---,14.7,14.47,22149.18,*

    Inigo,

Thanks for the post. I am interested in your example of volume as "22149.18".

Is the .18 a valid entry ? This would allow the volume to be correctly entered to the nearest share, as with the automatic update; that is volume up to 20 million shares.

If you are associated with Reckon, any chance we can get the 20 million bug fixed, as automatic share price updates and US historical updates both support volumes up to 2^31. We are told that there are no bugs in QPP, but this one must have gone under the radar !!

Your link to "Some info on why and how people have used this utility" is interesting to read. It speaks about the US version which notably claims:

"At this point you can optionally select Update?Download Historical Prices. If you do, choose
only this one stock to update. The display should update with stock’s history for 5 years. "  Five years !! we only get 5 days.

"Remember that there is no volume information available to import"  This should not be the case as the .csv file should be available in the extended format. If not, then the .txt file can be adapted to provide this information.

"Browse to the CSV file you created"  That would be a good addition to the Australian version, especially given the many reports of the file name being too long to be found.

I have never seen this corrupted date problem. It is a shame that Validate can not delete these price records. It is also unfortunate that the .qph file structure does not link each price record to the company code, as this could allow a regeneration of the .qph file from individual price records should the sequential linking system be corrupted. I have a long list of QPP backups stored on external drives to recover this data if the .qph file becomes destroyed. It is truly a shame that we can not expect that Reckon might one day address these problems.

The other important point is that http://www.asxhistoricaldata.com/, which is a great resource, only provides 3-letter code historical ASX prices. Many users of QPP have other priced codes, such as property trusts, Superannuation funds or other unlisted companies/trusts and their .qph file is their best source.

    Thanks again for the summary,

    John

    Hi John,

Thanks for pointing that out, that ".18" is probably not correct.
It was just a quick example dividing the value from the TXT file.
(Hadn't tested to see if it was accepted during an import)

I'm in a same situation as other users, just hoping someone at Reckon can do something about these problems that keep getting inherited from one version of the product to the next.

It's great that someone took the time to create that asxhistoricaldata.com site and that Reltran QPH Processor, adding value and giving back.

Reltran QPH Processor is a fantastic find. The author is very helpful.

asxhistoricaldata.com had last weekend off so I downloaded info from Comsec. That provided a similar data set.

I do not know why Reckon can not provide the data, for days when their server fails, in the extended format so that high, low and volume could also be available. They don't appear to consider that a requirement.
