Sales Order to Purchase Order

We create a sales order and then create a purchase order from the sales order.  Is there a way to look back at the sales order and see what purchase orders have been created from the sale order?

I thought this would be able to be done by the history button on the sales order, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I know we can look at the purchase order reports but this can take quite some time.

I usually go back into sales order and write the purchase order number in the message area as my reference

More manual entry, that can never quick be searched. Again, lacking workflow. Sales order to Invoice works, so why not PO's.??
