Rehiring ex employee

Should I rehire ex employee or start fresh? Employee left in 2008 and now we need to rehire him. As mentioned in other posts, if I try to set him up as a new employee, it won't let me use the same name. If I do a rehire after such a big gap, will there be any negative effects with reporting etc.

    Easiest way is to add another letter or symbol to the old name (I use ! when an employee set-up is corrupted or for whatever reason I don't want to use old set-up ) then re-establish as a new employee with correct details. Alternative is to use the old set-up (checking that there are no differences, eg address changes, different super fund now etc, so the details may need to be changed). There should be no impact on the history, unless there is a residual leave entitlement still 'connected' to the employee that would need to be cleared back to Nil for example.
