On the laptop ,  Sunday, then on Monday when  we tried to open quick book the menu appeared , new company, existing company, we selected existing  company  which took us to the browser to locate the backup.
The backup was only until 29/11/2017. I'm concerned about the  data after that date.

Where is your datafile located? Is it in the default directory?

thank you Kevin for your help, I was able to restore  data until 27/09/17.
The rest  to date is missing. Do you have any suggestions on how that can be retrieved?

For goodness' sake make sure you put it in the default directory. Back it up. Then back it up again to en external drive. Then back it up again to skydrive (or google drive - I dont care) and make sure you do this every single time after you have finished work for the day. You need to know the precise location of your data file and the backups at all times. Its a disaster waiting to happen if you dont. Have a wonderful day.

Kevin Russell could you please tell me what the equivalent default directory (C:\users\public\public documents\intuit\Quickbooks\Company Files) would be for Home & Business?

There is a knowledge base article for this kb3836. Have you searched for the qdf file?

Astro, I'm not sure that KB article is quite up to date.  I usually find the default location these days for a Home & Business data file to be C:\users\*yourusername\documents\Quicken.  If not there it would be in the public\public documents folder.
