Group Item - would like the item line to show the quantity and group price on the invoice

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone can let me know if a Group item can or can't display/print the quantity and group price on an invoice?

We’d like to be able to create a item/group where the description that is shown to the customer is the
group description (not including the items that make the group), with the items within the group being tracked/reported to the individual items that make up the group and not becoming a new item like creating an assembly does.....

The way the group type reports seems to be what we want but we cannot work out why a total unit price and the quantity isn’t displaying/printing on the invoice?

Yes, a Group Item can display either a Group Name or the individual Items within it.

This is a preference you set on the Group Item itself:

If possible we would prefer to display only the description line on our invoice.

We do get this to work but when we do it this way a unit price doesn't display, we only get a blank space and the total, I would have thought a unit price would display as a sum of the items within the group not a blank space?

I have made two test groups to illustrate below, the bottom one is the preference.

I’ve just had a play around with it & it initially appeared to be a limitation of the feature ......... 

....... However, deleting the Group from the invoice & re-entering it again, it’s now reflecting the quantity, rate & GST per line as well as the overall total!

It looks ok when the item is only a single but if you change it to say 10 you still don't get an each price displayed for a complete grouping.

When you clear the print items in group box then the item (each) price (rate column) disappear. I created two test groups one where the print box is ticked and a second where it is cleared.

As far as I can tell it looks like something the program doesn't do, the displaying of the total grouped item price in the rate column in either mode......

Using the Group feature tracks everything the way we'd like rather than the assembly type but we would have customers asking us why parts of our invoice were missing as we'd prefer to only have the description line showing not the list of items in the group.

I think because the group is editable - & therefore there’s too much variation in quantity & value depending on how users have setup their Items - that is probably why it only shows the overall group total amount.  It basically just auto subtotals the entire group price.

It looks like you can only edit the individual Item quantities & still have this detail reflecting per line:

Looks like it is a limitation of the group type and we will have to decide to use either the Group displaying all lines or the assembly type to not display detail.

Are the Items in the Group creating a new, separately trackable Item representing a finished/complete Item you sell?

If not, don’t use Assemblies – These are tracked separately as new Items, “built” by you based on the availability of the relevant components in your Item List.
