File too big and trying to delete transactions

We have a Personal Plus file that is too large now and we are trying to delete transactions before a certain date. Is there any easy way to delete a bulk number of transactions as the obvious way of just highlighting and entering the "delete" key takes too long and uses up too much CPU and crashes the computer
