New Year Meltdown

So about a week into New Year and everything's good. Upgraded to Desktop 2023, STP Phase 2 compliant ... and we get a nasty blackout. When the power came back on, the computer didn't.

So I had to buy a new box, and I have access to a QBB back-up file.

My question is how do I do a new clean install of 2023 Accounts Plus Desktop? Just download the 2023 update from the portal?

Will that include the thingy that connects to the ATO to lodge STP?

My QBB backup is dated 3-07-2023 - when I load that, how will I know if I'm still STP Phase 2 compliant?

Sheesh, bad timing for a meltdown.

Yes download from the members site and install, the 2023 version is the latest for STP2. If you were using that version and did the migration wizard before the backup then all should be fine.

You should be fine, good that you’ve got your backup

    Hi Rob

You may need to call Reckon to get a new IKC (Installation Key Code) - This is the set of numbers you need to input when you install - as RA Plus is a single-install-only version so you won't be able to automatically download it again from the website.

Once installed, you'll be able to just "Restore" your backup (That's the .QBB file) This will be a copy of your original file so it will contain everything as it was when you backed up (including your STP2 configurations)

Your Reckon STP portal access ("the thingy that connects to the ATO to report STP" 😂) is unaffected as this is on a separate, stand-alone website 😊

Feel free to email me direct if you get stuck ☺️

Just downloaded it - it had an IKC listed next to it. I'll hold my breath and see how I go. I remember last time this happened though ... back in 2012 sometime, that it wouldn't install unless I had a previous version installed. It will surprise me if something like this from Reckon goes smoothly 😅 Anyway, thanks for your responses - I'll let you know how it goes.

Yep - too good to be true. I enter the IKC that was provided with the download and that's where it stops. Another wasted day on the phone with Reckon tomoz 😏

So when you say "single install only version" ... does that mean I can only ever have RA Plus on one device? Surely for $800 odd /year I'm allowed to run it on two machines? So if I do a new install on my new desktop, will that kill the install on my old desktop? Because I'm hoping to get it going again - I think it's only a power supply problem - I have a new one coming.

    Hi Rob

If you’re paying that much, that sounds like it’s a higher version (that allows multiple installations) ? 🤔

There are 4 RA desktop versions starting with Accounting (which is the most basic one), Plus (the first version with payroll), Premier (the first with multiple-install options … either 2 or 5) then Enterprise (the multi-installation top version, that accommodates up to 30 users, with ALL the bells & whistles - & is also the version that’s on the Hosted platform)

The lower versions are single installation/user licenses only. This just means you can only have one active installation.

It sounds to me like you’d be better off using Hosted. This doesn’t require any installation (or updates) as it’s on Reckon’s servers rather than on your local machine(s). You can therefore access it from any device, anytime, anywhere!

It’s currently $880 p/yr so if you’re already paying around that, this gives you more features & solves accessibility issues ☺️

(Don’t be put off by the stated “large business” suitability - I also have one-man tradies using it with no employees ☺️)

Reckon would credit any $$$s remaining on your current licence & you can simply restore your existing backup Company File into Hosted. (It looks exactly the same as your current desktop version, just has more features, if you want to use them)

Feel free to email me direct if this is something you’d like to look into ☺️
