Reckon Accounts Plus 2024 does not remember backup folder
I need to browse for the backup folder every day when I back up as the program does not remember the location nor any other backup options

I'm just in the process of downloading the new 2024 edition of Reckon Accounts Desktop to my PC to try and test this out.
After selecting the file path have you completed a backup successfully since installing the new 2024 edition?

yes, I create a backup daily since installing, and daily I need to browse for the folder and change other custom settings such as no verification

Thanks for that info.
I'm not aware of any changes in this area but I can replicate what you've highlighted. Let me see if I can get some insight around this from the product team.
Will come back to you.

Ok quick update on this @Anton Strauss
I was mistaken earlier, there was indeed a new update around backups specifically automatic/scheduled backups with the 2024 release which has also affected the normal backup process.
The team have looked into this and confirmed that running Reckon Accounts as an admin will allow the folder path to be retained/remembered.
What I'd recommend is;
1️⃣ Run Reckon Accounts as an admin and select a backup location and run the backup. It will then set/remember the backup folder location that you specify.
2️⃣ Then, if you run Reckon Accounts as a non-admin upon subsequent use it will continue to remember the last designated backup location as set previously when run as admin.
ℹ️ Note: If you run the software as a non-admin and attempt to change the backup location, it will not remember that new location but instead remember the last location set when run as admin.

thanks, this now remembers the folder path but it fails to remember my setting of no verification
it always wants to do the full verification

Sorry to hijack - but slightly related . . . Is the auto backup fix noted in upgrade notes specific to Desktop or can we expect this to work in Hosted now also ? Upgrade notes don't seem to note either way - thanks

Can I just clarify, was the No Verification selection being remembered/retained in your previous version of Reckon Accounts (I assume the 2023 version) prior to upgrading to the latest 2024 version?
I tried testing it out on my install of 2023 and 2024 however the selection always defaults to Complete Verification as its the recommended option so I'm uncertain if there are any changes there.

The What's New article you've linked to above is specific to Reckon Accounts 2024 Desktop. The articles for Reckon Accounts Hosted 2024 AU is HERE and this one HERE for NZ.
The fix for auto/scheduled backups is specific to Reckon Accounts Desktop 2024. It doesn't carry over to Reckon Accounts Hosted unfortunately.

yes, the no verification option was remembered in every version prior to 2024
all I ever did was click backup, followed by Finish and it was backed up within 6 seconds
if I click Finish now, it does a full verification which takes a long time

Hmm ok that's interesting.
I raised this with the product team and they've confirmed defaulting to Complete Verification on a backup is the standard/normal behaviour as its the recommended option and there hasn't been any change in that respect. I also tested it out myself a little earlier with 2023 and it defaulted to the Complete Verification option.
I know this is a massive long shot but you wouldn't happen to have 2023 still installed would you? If so, could you take a screen recording showing the No Verification option pre-selected so I could take it back to the team for another look.At this stage though, if you prefer to run the backup without verification, that option will need to be selected when you perform it.

yes I still have it installed, stand by

I have solved the issue, in 2024
select no Verification and perform backup while Reckon is started as admin
close reckon and open again without admin
click backup and click finish (without clicking options) and it will do the backup without verification from here on
if you click options, it will revert to full verification

Excellent, that's good info. Appreciate you sharing @Anton Strauss 🙂

no problem, hope it helps others

Since you are creating backups with the No Verification option, we would highly recommend that you at least once a week perform a manual Verify Data operation (the same process that occurs if the complete verification option is enabled in the backup options).
Running the built-in Verify Data function gives some insight as to the current file integrity, whether there are any detected issues and what they may be, which ends up documented in the QBWIN.LOG error log file.

Most unhappy!!
Not only backup path not remembered but also the prompt about number of backups saved has gone missing….
The fix does not work easily for us as we have a mapped drive set up to backup folder. When I run Reckon Desktop as 'administrator' this mapping does not exist. According to Win10 help it can be fixed BUT with a lot of effort. And definitely not at this time of year.
This means we have to continually look for the backup drive. And manually delete backups.
What is wrong with your programmers and testers??? And this is from someone that spent many years in IT in all roles.

Hi!
This issue is a problem for me also. I am a single user of the Desktop software so I only ever sign in as the administrator.
I am having to search for the backup folder and reset all my preferences each time I backup - it is very time consuming and annoying. I regularly perform verification and rebuilds but not for every backup (too time consuming).
How do I fix this when I am the administrator?

Right click the reckon desktop icon and choose run as admin, then select the backup folder and untick verification
close reckon and open again without admin by just double clicking the icon
click backup and click finish (without clicking options) and it will do the backup without verification from here on
if you click options, it will revert to full verification

Thanks very much for your help Anton - that has worked :)

You are welcome, ideally Reckon should fix this

Disappointed no response from Reckon.
As previously stated, mapped drive does not appear under 'administrator'……. not sure why…
We do verification every time a backup is done as Reckon has been 'flaky' in the past.
I have just deleted about 15 backups ….. still leaves about 10….
Reckon please fix!!

I've had exactly the same problem but only downloaded 2024 last week. What a mess thank god for the community as Reckon are next to useless.

Some problems are easier to fix than others, this has always been the case with computers @stevec21, and solutions are not always the same for each user. Support avenues in any business cannot be perfect and yes community forums are beneficial, but everyone is just trying to help.
