Switching Payroll from QuickBooks to Reckon One – Do I Need to Migrate Data?

I have a client who’s been using QuickBooks for payroll from July 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024 but the previous accountant made some mistakes. Now they want us to take over and correct their payroll reporting using Reckon One. Do I need to migrate all the payroll data from QuickBooks to Reckon One, or can I just create the new payroll records in Reckon One and submit the ATO update event for that period (July 1 to December 31, 2024)? After that, I would just continue submitting normal payroll events in Reckon One. Anyone have experience with this?

    Hi @Thomaswuker1608

My answer to this is that its largely dependent on whether you require access and/or records of this previous data in your Reckon One book. If you think you need a record of this data then I'd suggest a data migration is probably a good idea.

If there's no need for it and/or you'd prefer a fresh start, then it may not be necessary.

Since STP is reported on a YTD basis only when it comes to employee balances, you won't have much trouble in terms of correcting balances etc. However regardless of which option you go with, I'd recommend the very first thing you do is add the previous BMSID into the new Reckon One book for this entity so that your transition is much easier - https://help.reckon.com/article/ipxl6j21c5-adding-your-previous-bms-id-in-reckon-one

I'll also add some info on data migration which includes some key FAQ's at the bottom of the page - https://www.reckon.com/au/support/data-migration-switch-to-reckon/
