Integrated superstream solution for accounts hosted

We're currently looking at our options for Superstream providers for Payday Super compliance for Reckon Accounts & Reckon Accounts Hosted. Nothing to announce on that front just yet but we'll certainly share more info as we get closer.

The Beam integration that you've found details for is currently exclusive to Reckon One.

@Rav is there any update on this?
From what I can see previously Ozedi was available for Reckon Hosted users - but now that is closing down what is the alternative integration portal?
I have not seen any communication from Reckon to assist us with preparing for this change and the closing of the ATO clearing house for super payments - would appreciate some advice.
What are other Reckon Hosted users doing?

QuickSuper clearing house (Australian Super) accepts a Saff file exported by Reckon. But they are changing to Wrkr in the next month or two. I believe a couple of Sydney hospitals have been using this for a while and I am going to follow this up to replace the ATO clearing house. Don’t know fees or any other requirements yet, but Quick Super clients will be migrated to it as far as I understand

Not yet Eric. We are a small NFP with limited funding, so are hoping Reckon come to the party with an arrangement to replace Ozedi with another fee free option

I believe Wrkr will be free as long as you use them as your default fund. Doesn’t mean you have to change anyone just set it up to be the default fund if required. I have sent them an enquiry regarding this and will post when I get a reply

there was no cost to use the ATO clearing house so not sure what you are expecting cost wise. As I said Australian Super clearing house works the same as the ATO one and you can export the saff file from Reckon - no fees involved.

As far as I'm aware, Ozedi has never been fee-free as it's not developed/owned by Reckon, it's an independent 3rd party business solutions provider 😬

Use of their portal is free, but only for e-Invoicing & receiving rebates. Payroll processing (including Super) however, is apparently charged via pre-paid data usage credits, so is dependent on the size & complexity of your payroll.

@karen_escare Most of the major Super funds do have their own clearing house, which is usually completely free to use if you're a registered employer with them (employer registration is also free)

Of course, all of this may well change from 01/07/26 as Super processing - on both sides - will be much more frequent. I'm actually wondering what the impact will be for employees in their super accounts though 🤔 as the Super fund's processing workload will expand so I'm thinking they may increase member account fees to cover it! 😖

But … until the ATO finalise the details, all of us - including payroll software developers like Reckon - are a bit in the dark still, as to the specifics. Therefore personally I'm not doing anything yet as once the details are locked-in, there will likely be a range of - existing & new - providers keen to get their super payday-compatible solution out there. In the meantime, the only thing we need to really do is ensure we print/save the SBSCH employee info as there's no function for "exporting" the data out electronically 🤦🏻‍♀️

I think there's a bit of confusion around the name QuickSuper as yes, it is a payment platform (eg a Superannuation Clearing House) that is owned by Westpac however … a number of super funds facilitate access to the QuickSuper platform for their employer clients, including :

However - as they've noted there - they are actually in the process or transitioning from QuickSuper to their own employer portal 😊

Is there an update on this from Reckon? They are leaving it too late. Xero & Myob already have payday solutions in place.

And the Myob & Xero payday super solutions are all free integrated solutions without having to export anything.

I've already setup, moved & successfully tested all my Myob & Xero clients onto there payday solutions.

But for my Reckon clients all I can do is tell them I'm still waiting on Reckon. Very disappointing

@CastleBookkeeping Reckon already have that as well with Beam for Reckon One which is a more like for like comparison to those others you've mentioned.

This might be stupid but I don't understand is what's stopping folks from signing up to one of the many existing clearing house services out there? Why are you waiting for Reckon?

Beam is for Reckon One only, not for Accounts Hosted. This topic raised was for Accounts Hosted.

Independent clearing houses charge a fee for the service. Also to get the information to a 3rd party clearing house you either have to manually add the payment information into that 3rd party service (like the ATOs clearing house) or export the data from Reckon Accounts hosted, perhaps then massage the data before importing it into the 3rd party clearing house). All time & effort. In Myob & Xero it is A) free & B) the data info is already in the accounting package. You just choose the dates & submit it. No stuffing around with imports / exports.

Finally, as part of the legislative change it is a legal requirement on the payroll service providers (including Reckon) to provide suitable data & streamlined payment standards for the super payments.

I was able to export a Saff file to QuickSuper, and I know there are other clearing houses that allow this. Very little preparation required. Never paid a fee

This is quite disappointing. With Reckons main competitors (Myob & Xero), the payday super solution is completely integrated. Payroll role is done & super payment can be instigated without having to download / upload files & login to another service. It seems in Reckons solution you need to run payroll, then download a file, then login to First Choice, then upload the file before making payment. It is also unclear whether First Choice makes the payment (Direct Credit) or if you have to login to internet banking to make the payment (Direct Credit). Remember this will soon be required to do for every payroll run.

So to compare:

Myob & Xero payday super solution

Login into Xero or Myob
Run payroll
Submit super within software which automatically makes payment

Reckon Accounts payday super solution

Login to Reckon Accounts
Run payroll
Download the file
login to First Choice
Upload the file to submit
Login to Internet Banking (if Direct Debit is not available)
Make the payment

So, Reckons statement 'Super made simple!' is definitely not true compared to it's competitors.

In terms of your comparison, while it’s easy to compare this directly with those competitors, it’s important to recognise that the comparison isn’t quite apples-for-apples. Those platforms are fully cloud-native products built on modern web architectures, whereas Reckon Accounts Desktop and Reckon Accounts Hosted are based on a completely different technology framework and operating model.

Because of that, a fully embedded, in-product clearing house solution was never on the roadmap or a viable option for Reckon Accounts Desktop or Hosted, the codebase simply won't allow for it. Instead, our partnership with Colonial First State provides Reckon Accounts customers with compliant access to the FirstChoice Employer Super Clearing House at no cost and without the need to switch their default super fund either. This ensures you can meet upcoming Payday Super obligations with a secure and established super provider.

To clarify your payment question, FirstChoice Employer Super Clearing House facilitates the processing and distribution of super payments to employee funds.

If what you’re looking for is a fully integrated, in-product super clearing experience comparable from a technology standpoint to Xero or MYOB’s cloud offerings, that capability has been available for quite some time in Reckon One through our integration with Beam. Reckon One is cloud-native and therefore a more direct comparison when evaluating integrated payroll and super workflows.

I completely understand that workflow efficiency is important, particularly with the increased frequency coming into effect with Payday Super soon. Our focus with Reckon Accounts Hosted & Desktop is to provide a compliant, cost-effective pathway for customers within its existing architecture to meet their super obligations in particular those who may have been using the SBSCH. At the same time, we have a fully integrated option for super processing within Reckon One for those who prefer a more embedded workflow.

hi Rav. Thanks for the update. I understand that the software architecture is different & may have limitations but at the end of the day Reckon Accounts is competing with Xero & Myob Accountright so if Reckon want to provide an 'on par' solution with it competitors then it needs to do better than the Colonial First state super solution.

It's also a bit simplistic to imply that the client can always just move to Reckon one. My Reckon accounts clients have been using Reckon Accounts for many years. There is a big learning curve & data migration to be done before they could make that move (which is why they haven't). And in any case if they were to change Accounting Packages then they would also be looking into Myob & Xero, not just Reckon One.
