Error code 6960.

1.When logging in Lenovo computer does not open the latest personal plus data but asks if I am existing user or not;

2. I enter "existing user" and then it requires me to choose the latest data file on computer;

3. Entered that but took me to data page that was 12 days old;

4. To see if working I then entered new data but and that data enters;

5. I tried to back up but will not back up although the data file with the newly entered data is saved on computer;

6. Then close and try to log in again but when I did so I had to go through steps 1-2 again to get up the then latest data file.

Can anyone help

Jonathan

    There are a few threads on this board about this previously so it might be worth searching but in a nutshell.. make your file name less than 8 digits and make sure you're restoring your file on your local drive rather than cloud storage

    Hi @jilbery

    Error 6960 usually occurs when Reckon cannot access the company file, often due to:

    1. File permission issues – the user doesn’t have read/write access to the folder where the company file (.QBW or .QBB) is stored.
    2. File corruption – the company file is damaged or partially unreadable.
    3. Incorrect file location – the file is on a network drive that is not properly mapped or has lost connection.
    4. Antivirus or firewall – blocking Reckon from accessing the file.

    Here's how to fix the error:

    1. Check File Location and Permissions

    • Make sure the company file is on your local drive, not a USB or disconnected network drive.
    • Right-click the company file → Properties → Security → Ensure your Windows user has Full Control.

    2. Run Reckon as Administrator

    • Close Reckon.
    • Right-click the Reckon icon → Run as Administrator.
    • Try opening the file again.

    3. Check for File Corruption

    • Use File → Open or Restore Company → Restore a Backup to restore from your most recent backup.
    • If restoring works, the original file may be corrupted.

    4. Disable Antivirus/Firewall Temporarily

    • Some antivirus programs block Reckon file access.
    • Temporarily disable them and try opening the file.

    5. Use the Reckon File Doctor (if available)

    • Reckon provides tools to verify and repair company files.
    • Download and run Reckon File Doctor to check the file.

    6. Network Drive Issues

    • If your file is stored on a network or cloud drive, copy it to your local computer and try opening it there.
    • Ensure the drive is mapped correctly and fully accessible.

    If the error persists after the above steps, contact Reckon Support:

    I hope this helps!

    Hi @MMC_Convert,

    The category of the question is "Personal Plus And Home & Business" which is for the Reckon Accounts Personal range which makes use of the QDF file extension.

    The Reckon Accounts Business range is a different product family, which make use of the QBW file extension.

    I am confused is the possible solution offered by MMC_Converter going to work for my Reckon Accounts Personal product?

    No.

    The info provided by MMC Convert in this particular instance refers mainly to the Reckon Accounts Business range product.

    What is important for you to determine and confirm is:

    1. What files are present on your computer that have ".QDF" file extension which represents the primary data file in a Reckon Accounts Personal range data file set.

    DATA RECOVERY: How to find a data file using Windows Search — Reckon Community

    2. Once you know where the files are on your computer, you may see similar or identically named data files with a QDF file extension, that are in different locations.

    3. You can then compare their file sizes (where typically the larger file would contain more data and likely more recent data)

    4. As @Eric Murphy has indicated, if the name of your data file is longer than 8 characters, consider renaming it so that it is up to 8 characters only.

    Example:

    "QDATA.QDF" is the default name of a Reckon Accounts Personal range data file, where the name QDATA is only 5 characters long.

    Sometimes the name of the file includes dates which renders the total file name length to be longer than 8 characters.
