Feedback on new invoice system

I have been using the new invoice system for a while, and I honestly hate it. It's making things so much harder than it used to be.

The date defaults to today's date, so when entering invoices for payments from a previous month, I have to enter the date each time. In the old system, it would default to the date you had entered for the invoice you had just entered.

Speaking of the date, I have to enter in a full year for it to register, instead of the last two digits. The drop down for the date also bugs me. The shortcuts are not the ones I need… I want to be able to type in the date, eg 18/12/25 and press tab for the next field, like the old one, it's faster for me when entering things. (I have spoken to support about this one and they didn't know it was happening… you can do this in the bills still)

with the customer, I used to be able to type the name, then press tab and it would stay in the field. The new system, I type in the name and have to click from the drop down for it, and it doesn't always stay!

There used to be a button at the top to enter payment and it would save the invoice and take you to the option to enter the payment. Now I have to save the invoice, then enter the payment, then save it again! This adds more steps and frustrates me.

These may be little things, but are making my life harder when entering invoices. I have given feedback before too… but was encouraged by the chat bot to post here too.

I used to love ReckonOne and part of it was how easy it was to do invoicing. Your new invoicing system is not making things easier…

    Hi @melissagijsbers

I'm sorry to hear you're not a fan of the new invoice experience in Reckon One at the moment 😔

Thanks so much for sharing this feedback though, its good for us to hear where you'd like to see improvements. There are a couple of parts where I might need a bit more info but I'll try to clarify a couple of aspects below.

Before that though, from the sounds of it you use your tab key to move through fields regularly so I think potentially Reckon One's fast entry mode might help you out. You'll find Fast Entry by clicking the Settings option in the top right corner and toggling the option on. It won't solve everything you need at the current time but it should make tabbing through certain fields in the new invoice experience a little easier.

The date defaults to today's date, so when entering invoices for payments from a previous month, I have to enter the date each time. In the old system, it would default to the date you had entered for the invoice you had just entered.

I wasn't aware of that so that's a good pickup, unfortunately I don't have a test book with the old invoice experience in it but I've had a chat with our product dev team about this. We've raised a ticket to look at the behaviour where selecting Save & New defaults the date field to today's date rather than retaining the date of the previous invoice in the new invoice experience.

I see what you mean in regard to entering the full 4 digits of the year rather than just say '26' for 2026 for example. The team have also raised a ticket for this and will investigate improvements we can make here.

with the customer, I used to be able to type the name, then press tab and it would stay in the field. The new system, I type in the name and have to click from the drop down for it, and it doesn't always stay!

In regard to the above, I might need a little more info on this. In the old invoice experience, after clicking tab you've mentioned it would stay in the field. To clarify, was this in the process of creating a new customer or selecting an existing customer?

In the old invoice experience, after typing in the full customer name and clicking tab it would proceed to the next field. However if a partial customer name is typed in, or it doesn't exist and then you press tab, it would bring up a window to create a new customer. This doesn't happen in the new invoice experience.

Would you prefer if; after typing in an existing customer name then pressing tab it highlights the customer in the dropdown for immediate selection?

There used to be a button at the top to enter payment and it would save the invoice and take you to the option to enter the payment. Now I have to save the invoice, then enter the payment, then save it again! This adds more steps and frustrates me.

Great feedback here. Just to clarify, are you creating an invoice and then immediately applying a payment to it on a regular basis? ie. do you usually create invoices after a payment comes in, or do you usually create invoices first then apply payment later on and in the odd instance, do so after a payment comes in first?

Sorry for the long post, hopefully all of the above makes sense but let me know if you have any questions.

With the customer, it was using an existing customer. Even with creating a new customer, I used to be able to type in the start of a name, then a pop up would come so I could enter details. This still works on the bills… I didn't have to type in a full name as it would identify a contact from a few letters.

I had no idea of the fast enter option, I will try that.

I have spoken to support about the date .

Most of these things are still working on the bills as one of the things I used to really like was the invoices and bills were the same… so if you want to check the functions on a bill, that may show you what I mean.

I am really not impressed with the new experience at all. I am neurodivergent, and change is hard, so I have really tried to like it… but it's not working very well and I get quite frustrated with it.
