CFS Clearing House

I'm finding the whole process of using CFS as a clearing House very confusing and frustrating. At the moment I've given them my employees REST fund details but somehow they have set the employee as a CFS member even though I gave the REST fund USI, member number ABN etc????. Nothing is very clear as to what to do, then they want a SAFF file never mentioned before, what is it? I still don't know how to get the contribution detail to the clearing house, what the hell do I do now???

yes that’s ok, you don’t have to export a Saff and use a clearing house, as long as the super is paid within 7 days of the wages payment

Are you sure they've actually been setup with the CFS fund or if it's just info?

A saff file is just the file you create in hosted to upload to the clearing house. It's been around for years so it isn't anything new. Look at the steps in their announcement:

Thanks Eric, but I'm still none the wiser, I still have never heard of a SAFF file, some relation to SNAFU? still don't know what it does, anyway I give up. I'm going to pay direct to the Employees fund, would be much simpler, we are a 2 employee non profit none pay Incorporated Association and I hope the ATO know what problems they have caused withdrawing their super service.

Just wanted to explain a little about SAFF files to add some context. A SAFF file is a file that you create in Reckon Accounts from your payroll which includes key employee and super contribution information. You can use this file to send to a clearing house, like Colonial First State (or others) who will then use the information to disburse those specified contributions to each individual employee's super fund.

SAFF files can be useful, particularly if you have a lot of employees as it can cut down on manual data entry and uses data directly from your payroll.

As @Kris_Williams has rightly mentioned, you don't have to use the SAFF file method and can instead pay super contributions using other means such as directly to the fund or manually into a clearing house, it'll just need to actioned each pay day rather than each quarter once Payday Super kicks in from July 1.
