Hi everyone

Today I had an interesting call over our support line in relation to using Reckon Accounts with a NAS.

It's not overly common and a bit of an interesting use case so I wanted to ask the Reckon Accounts Desktop community here for any feedback on whether you use a NAS in conjunction with Reckon Accounts and if so, are there any common issues or tips you've come across that you could share with us?

In particular, have you had any issues with network drive servers or user folder permissions that affect file access when initially setting up the local share?

Any suggestions on managing firewall settings or ensuring the necessary executable files have the right permissions would be really helpful. I'd love to hear your experiences and any tips you have!

Thank you.
Lucas

    File sharing on NAS

    Hi Lucas,

We previously had Reckon Accounts Desktop with 5 user license. Unless the firewall was disabled permanently, the file couldn't be shared.

Any issues with sharing the file (sometimes the firewall would turn back on mysteriously) that is the first place to look if the firewall has been turned back on.

I don't know if this information helps but I thought I would let you know.

    Regards,

    Jen

    Hi @abcpack,

Have you encountered any issues with your NAS during the setup process at all?

    Thanks.

    Hi @JEN,

Sorry about the experience you have suffered with the firewall. Did the setup happen on a NAS or server you attempted to have users access the data files?

    Thank you and speak soon.

    Hi @Lucas

It was a server we had the issues with. The firewall was the problem.

    Hi Lucas

I host my company file on a NAS as an iSCSI share to the server that hosts reckon. This means that the windows server sees it as one of it's local drives, so you just have to follow normal windows sharing procedures. The NAS itself stores this in a ZFS RaidZ2 pool (with all the benefits that that provides) but this is all invisible to the windows server it just sees a drive.
