Reckon Accounts Desktop v34 - Inventory Adjustment error - New install now available

Hi everyone
We have been investigating reports of Reckon Accounts Desktop v34 and Reckon Accounts Hosted crashing with an unrecoverable error message when viewing an inventory adjustment transaction.
What's the issue?
This issue stems from a new enhancement introduced in the latest version designed to hide inactive items from the Adjust Quantity on Hand window—a highly requested feature. Unfortunately, this change has led to instability when viewing existing inventory adjustment transactions and is resulting in a crash.
The root cause lies within the fundamental code base of Reckon Accounts that manages inventory transactions and how item statuses interact with transaction history and reporting.
What's the fix?
Attempting to isolate and modify this complex code carries significant risk of introducing further issues or data integrity problems in other parts of the software. Because of this, the issue cannot be safely resolved with a simple patch file. Instead, we are releasing new updated builds of Reckon Accounts Desktop v34 and Reckon Accounts Hosted which rolls the previous enhancement back.
Inactive items will no longer be hidden on the Adjust Quantity/Value on Hand screen. This restores the same behaviour that existed in previous versions of Reckon Accounts.
I'm affected by this, what do I need to do?
Reckon Accounts Desktop v34 users
A new install of Reckon Accounts Desktop v34 is now available for download which rolls the above feature back. You can download the re-released edition of Reckon Accounts Desktop v34 from the Reckon Members Area.
Please uninstall your existing Reckon Accounts Desktop v34 first then install the newly released edition. Any company files you have previously upgraded to Reckon Accounts Desktop v34 will directly open in the new version as normal.
I'm not affected by this, do I need to install the new release?
If you are not affected by this issue, there is no need to install the re-released Reckon Accounts Desktop v34. You can continue to use your existing install of Reckon Accounts Desktop v34.

Hi Rav,
We use the inventory adjustment feature but the feature of hiding the inactive items when processing the inventory adjustment looks very useful to us. Its only when we try to lookinto the transaction, Reckon crashes.
My question is, if i were to leave the Reckon Accounts Desktop v34 as it is without installing the re-released version will there be any further issues apart from Reckon crashing on lookup of inventory adjustment transaction? If there is no impact, then i would prefer staying without the re-released version.
FYI, we have the Desktop enterprise version and have around 20 users.
Appreciate your advise.
Kind regards,
Rafi

Hi @Rafi
Technically the answer is yes you could stay on the original release however there are a few important things to keep in mind, particularly with the amount of users you have.
The above crash will occur when:
- Viewing a previous inventory adjustment transaction from the Adjust Quantity on Hand window
- Viewing an inventory adjustment transaction from an inventory report
- Creating a new item while the Adjust Quantity on Hand window is open
With the amount of users you have, it could only take one user to inadvertently do one of the above actions which will cause the crash and affect your other users. The other aspect is repeat software crashes can also lead to a higher risk of data corruption in your file which can potentially lead to more issues down the line.
So, while yes you could stay on the original release if your users avoid the above actions, they would need to remain alert and vigilant on the causes.
I know the aspect of inactive items being hidden is a welcome change and we'd love to have delivered this to our users but my strong recommendation would be to install the re-release version of Reckon Accounts Desktop v34 if you're using inventory.

Hi Rav,
Thanks.
Am I correct to conclude that the latest version of Reckon Accounts in the Reckon Members Area wont crash with an unrecoverable error message when viewing an inventory adjustment transaction?
Regards,
Ken

That's correct @Kenbeer24, the download available from the Members Area is the re-released version which includes the fix.

Did the process and this new updated version has the exact same problems between Reckon reports and Memorised Reports, same report criteria with totally different values picking up on historic $$$$ value on In-active Inventory items.
I'm reaching out here because the 'Technical Support Team' aren't helpful anymore!

Hi,
I have already installed Reckon Accounts Premier v34 5 Users Annual Licence R1 back in early July 2025. This is the same version that is currently showing in the members area. I thought that updates would usually have a different version number? Can you please clarify?

@JulieD it's the same version number. I imagine it wasn't that much of a significant change to warrant a different version number but I'm not expert. As long as you downloaded it after the date of Rav's post it should be the latest version.

Hi @JulieD
The info from @Eric Murphy is 100% spot on, the version number is the same as there are no tax changes in the re-release.
