    Hi,

    In a simple share transaction, there is;

    • The BUY line which calculated result is a positive number.
    • The SELL line is the same number as in the first line but as a negative number, no calculation with the SELL price or commission figures.
    • The third line, Realised Gain is correct.

So, why is the second line not displaying the correct sale total?

    Please see included picture.

    Regards

    Kevin

    Hello Sam,

I have been a Quicken/Recon user of Reckon Accounts Personal Plus since the 3.5" floppy disk days. Why can't we get support on this product? If we try to log a ticket on an issue, the drop-down list has everything except Reckon Accounts Personal Plus. We have to rely on the "Community" in a self-help, if they can. If there is an actually a bug (like I am experiencing) how does it get fixed? I get the feeling the Reckon Accounts Personal Plus users are an annoying legacy to Reckon. Years ago, we could call and talk to someone for help, and for a stiff fee I might add.

My issue is with a simple share trading capital gain report. The first line calculations, $17.45x100+$1.12 = -$1746.12, you buy something, it is a cash outflow, negative number. The second line one is calculated incorrectly. It should be $11.97x100+ $0.12= $1197.12, cash income, positive number. The capital gain is the only correct number -$549.24

I appreciate you will be a busy man with all the posts here, but I would really appreciate looking at this issue please.

    Regards

    Kevin

    Hi @Kevin_9915502

Is this occurring on all share transactions or just that specific one?

Have you run a validate and super validate on your file as yet?

    All transactions.

I have a new laptop and a fresh install of Reckon and a new data base from 1 Jan 2025.

    Cheers,

    Kevin

Just to clarify, by "new database", do you mean a brand new file?

    Yes,

I was having issues with Recon crashing every time I tried to enter a new stock code. Reckon staff tried to fix it but no luck there either.

    Cheers,

    Kevin

Is the above display of your share transaction lines different to how previous transactions have displayed in the past? ie. is this a new occurrence?

If so, can you provide a screenshot that shows the sell line displaying the total in how you've described in your opening post.

No, this is always how they have been displayed. The CASH figure on the SOLD line does not relate to the SELL transactions figures. I can't reconcile my broker transaction total against Reckon because Reckon does not display the sell transaction total.

Are you following what I am trying to explain?

Isn't this how buy and sell transactions have always shown? They have for me anyway. What's the issue here?

Yes, it has always been this way, but I don't believe it is correct.

Looking at the sell transaction in the screen shot above, the sell price is $3.37 x 200 shares = $674 less fees -$2.27 = $671.73, not the $436.26 that Reckon is displaying. When I try and reconcile the transaction with my broker statement obviously this discrepancy is a problem for me.

I don't understand why Recon shows the BUY figure in the positive on the sell line, it is not helpful at all. Got me stumped.

    Cheers

    Kevin

    Hi @Kevin_9915502

I'm not sure I have the expertise to add much more here but just to clarify, if the software has always displayed sale data in this manner, has this previously caused issues with your capital gain report?

In looking around, I came across this help guide however I'm not certain on whether its related or relevant but I'll add it here nonetheless - https://help.reckon.com/article/aglq2ht9ff-kba-4540-realised-capital-gains-not-reporting-correctly

@GerryWinter have you seen this before?

I think this error requires a change in the programming of the software. However, being a "legacy" program as the CEO did mention, Reckon appears to have no interest in making any changes, updates or rectifications to the product. This is bitterly disappointing considering Reckon cannot offer an alternative. Reckon clearly has a focus on business applications and the Personal Plus is of no value to Reckon. I have written a letter to Sam Allert directly last month on this issue, to which there has been no reply. I get the feeling Reckon will be happy when all the current Personal Plus users find a suitable alternative, very disappointing.

I would like to see how it was entered and try it in the sample file.

    Hi Gerry,

I will try to describe the full picture below.

I am using an Investment:Brokerage account.

From "Enter Transaction", select Buy - Shares Bought.

Date: 01/10/2025, Security Name: In this example I will use Web Jet: WEB

Number of shares: 200, Price Paid: $10.00, Commission: $15.00, GST blank. In the CASH box, leave on From this account's…." Stamp duty: blank, Total Cost should show: $2015.00. "ENTER DONE".

    image.png

The Investment Transaction report should look like above, which to my mind is correct.

    Now let's sell the shares:

From "Enter Transaction", select Sell - Shares Sold.

Date: 9/10/2025, Security Name: Web Jet: WEB

Select the check box: "Sell all shares in the account". The "Number of shares:" should auto populate with 200. Enter a sell price of $17.00, Commission: $15.00, GST and Stamp duty blank. In the CASH box, leave on "To this account's…. " "ENTER DONE". The "Total Sale" figure should be $3385.00

Subtract our buy total from our sell total = $1370.00

    image.png

Now, look at the CASH column for the SOLD transaction. In my mind, it should read $3385.00.

The CASH column should reflect actual cash movement for each transaction.

    To generate this report:

Reports & Graphs > Investing > Investment Transactions.

I hope you were able to follow this. Let me know what you come up with.

    Cheers,

    Kevin

I get the same result and admittedly it doesnt look nice but it is correct in its figures, if you drill down on each line it shows how its made up and the bottom line figure is correct.

All figures are correct with one exception, the total on the SELL line. When I am trying to reconcile my RECKON transactions against my brokers statement, it is extremely inconvenient having to drill down every SELL transaction.

I see no reason why they have that figure in the total of the sell line. Of no use to anyone, but I can't see Reckon doing anything about it now the program is in LEGACY mode.

Thanks for looking at it anyway.

    Cheers, Kevin
