Hi, we have received the employer welcome kit and wonder why we have to enter our (employer) bank account details?
We never wish to upload our bank account details anywhere.
We have 7 staff and payroll is fortnightly. With the ATO SBSH, we would be able to use the bpay option to make the total payment to the clearance house. Does the Colonial FirstState SCH not offer a Bpay option to make the payment?
…further to my previous email, I should point out that we also don't do payroll with the elecetonic ABA online file option. The Financial Control officer prefers to pay staff directly via the bank account (eft).
@AndreaLaw your bank account details are added for any refunds of contributions to be paid back into if/when required.
In regard to making payment for contributions, I believe CFS offer direct debit and/or direct credit as payment options but do not have bPay.
Hi Rav. Ok so for those of us who don't wish to reveal our bank account details, we are probably best going back to paying the individual super funds directly through their employer access online like we did 10 years ago? 😉
I imagine there will be a lot of small businesses who will be pretty annoyed at the ATO for stopping their SBCH service for this reason….
Once you are setup the process is relatively simple, what irks most people is having to do it weekly.
Are there any particular concerns you have with adding bank account details for the purpose of refunds into the CFS clearing house?
Did the SBSCH have an option to provide refunds if they were required for any reason outside of back to your bank account?
I never used the SBSCH myself so keen to understand.
@AndreaLaw from 1st July 2026 I don't believe you will be able to pay the individual super funds directly. Here is some information from ATO regarding superstream: https://www.ato.gov.au/businesses-and-organisations/super-for-employers/payday-super/superstream-changes
The messaging behind refunds from the clearing houses is changing and that's why the bank account is needed in case of refunds.
Regards, Robyn Kelly
Our concern is not the frequency but having to reveal our bank account details anywhere for privacy and security reasons. Robyn, you raise a fair point regarding refunds. I expect a lot of mistakes going ahead so I guess direct payment refunds is how it goes now….How I read that is the ATO wants us to check with the individual super funds to see if they are ready to support NPP - the New Payments Platform. If so, then I would assume they would still accept payments via the employer access of their websites.
The bank details don’t bother me, the ATO have them. And they are given to many people for customer payments
The ATO clearing house also needed them for refunds
