Problems with import and conversion of QIF files

Hi there,
I'm using Reckon Accounts Plus 2016 but this same problem occurred when I was using Reckon Accounts Plus 2013. It suddenly started happening a few months ago.

When I go to import a bank statement file - a QIF - that part works.

I go to Banking > Import Bank Statement and I'm able to import the QIF and save it to a QBO file.

However, what *should* happen next does not. It does not show the "Reckon Accounts has received new transaction data..." etc. dialog box. It just sits there and nothing happens.

I can still import the QBO file by either double clicking on the actual file or going through File > Utilities>  Import > Web Connect Files > and it works as it should.

What is causing this? Something is preventing the seamless process that it is supposed to have happen from happening. I have attempted to trouble shoot by doing the following:

* Checked the permissions on each of the folders being used by Reckon Accounts
* Installed 2016 Plus
* Checked all the preferences that are available (none seems to be relevant)

Any ideas? I suspect a Windows 10 update is the problem, but have no idea how to find out which and I can't pinpoint exactly when this started happening, except it happened some months back and has never fixed itself.

Thanks,
Eddie

    Hello Eddie,

    Welcome to the Reckon Community.

Sounds like the import function is not triggering the import module to process the transactions.

    Go to Control Panel > Default Programs > Associate a file type or protocol with a specific program;
Scroll down to .qbo - is it assigned to Reckon Accounts 2016?

    If not,
    Click on Change Program...
    Select Reckon Accounts 2016
If it is not in your list, click on "Look for another app on this PC"
Browse to your installation directory (Default: C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\Reckon Accounts 2016)
    Select QBW32.EXE.

Now try again.  Was it successful?

    regards,
    John

    Hi John,

It already is associated with QBW32.exe/Reckon Accounts 2016. I've already checked and double checked that and it doesn't make a difference.

    Regards,
    Eddie

    Thanks Eddie,

Please do a test.  Create a new company file and import your QIF.  Do you get the same behaviour?

    regards,
    John

    Thanks Eddie,

    Open your QIF with Notepad.
    is the first line !Type:Bank?
is the date in the format dd/mm/yy?

    Hi Eddie,

When the import "fails" does a file appear in the Online Banking Centre anyway?

    regards,
    John

No, it doesn't. Just the previous one that's been imported via File > Utilities > Import > Web Connect File

    thanks Eddie,

If the old file is processed and removed, does the import of the new QIF proceed?

The next steps are firstly to consider that security software is blocking part of the Reckon Accoutns software.  Best test is to disconnect from the internet and restart your PC in Safe Mode.  Does the import of the QIF file now fail in the same way?

If not, then restart in normal mode and make Reckon Accounts processes exceptions in your security software.  A guide is here.

If the problem still occurs, then you will need to clean un-install your software and re-install it.  A guide is here.

    regards,
    John.

Sorry to hear nothing worked Eddie.

I've sent you one of my QIFs (3 transactions) that works for me.  Does it work for you?
Are you willing to send your QIF to us at community@reckon.com?

    regards,
    John

Hi John and anyone following this discussion:
The problem is resolved: I changed the name of the QBO file it converted from what the bank had given the QIF to a shorter name and it resolved this problem. Woohoo!
