Horticulture/Shearer

Hi Rav
Background: Wholesale Propagation Nursery
Award: Nursery Award
Just updated to Reckon Accounts 2023 Desktop
Only option for us for STP Tax Category seems to be Horticulturist/Shearer - TFT. Plant Nurseries are NOT covered by the Horticultural Award. Is there some way of adding additional options to this list? The list seems very limited (Actors, Horticulture/Shearer, Seniors/Pensioners are the only options).
Cheers, Sue Wood

Hi @Sue
The STP Tax category is a reporting field for STP Phase 2 only (it does not affect any tax calculations) and only applies to employees who fit under those specific roles as part of the ATO's requirements. More info in our guide below and from the ATO here.
If your employee does not fit within that specific category, do not make a selection for the STP Tax Category field.

Thanks Rav.
Just confirming, that means that I do not make a selection under STP Tax Category for the person who comes in to do accounts as a casual. Correct? I leave it blank.

Hi Sue
These category sub options are related to specific tax tables, nothing to do with Awards.
“Horticulturists & Shearers” do not have HELP or Medicare Levy Reduction so these fields would be automatically greyed out for you, if selected.
NOTE: Most employees (including your Wholesale Nursery workers) would not fall under this specific category list in which case, this selection should just be left blank ☺️

Hi Shaz
Similar question as original poster-
Background: Horticultural farming
Awards: Horticulture and Clerical
We have some employees on the Hort award and one on the Clerks award (who has a HELP/HECS debt). You mention "“Horticulturists & Shearers” do not have HELP or Medicare Levy Reduction so these fields would be automatically greyed out for you, if selected."
Do we use the Horticulture/Shearer – TFT category for the Clerk/HELP person also?
Also,
If we select the Horticulturists/Shearers – TFT category is it correct we use the 8-No TaxC code?
Thankyou

Hi @karelfritz
" ... Do we use the Horticulture/Shearer – TFT category for the Clerk/HELP person also ..?"
I wouldn't think so (unless there's a specific grade/classification for clerical employees within it ?) I would think it would be the Clerks Award but check the Horticulture/Shearer Award to confirm that.
" ... If we select the Horticulturists/Shearers – TFT category is it correct we use the 8-No TaxC code ..?"
Is that the code you've been using up to now ? There's no change in STP2 to how you previously had employees set up for taxing. These new categories do NOT impact any automatic tax calculations within the program, they are just information-only (that the ATO wants to be able to see on the submissions at their end)

No, we have used the general 2-TFT tax code but it has this noted in the "Relationship between Tax Category and Tax Codes" table on this webpage that if you use the Horticulturists/Shearers – TFT category you use the 8-No TaxC code.
