How to make Q Drive restored file into everyday Rah file?

Hi all,

I made a mistake and needed to restore our company file. (I saved it just in case what I was working on was a 'stuff up' & sure enough I needed it! Phew!)

I have been in and out of our file both as 'Admin' user and as 'Staff 1' (depending on which computer/office I am in) over the past two days. I noticed today that the work I did yesterday wasn't saved to the restored/newest file and have had to backtrack.

Not sure how I ended up looking at two identically named files to choose from on opening screen as shown. How do I continue with the up-to-date file, Ie. Q Drive file? How do I turn my backed up Q Drive file into my everyday 'Rah' file?

Thanks very much for any help at all!

Glynis

    Using the red toolbox I would go into the Q drive and make sure there’s only 1 file in there. If there are two rename one of them and open each one to see which is the correct one. I wouldn’t be in a hurry to delete either of them for now though, until you’re 100% certain.

    you can also do this by clicking on the Open or restore box to see how many files are in there

    Hi Glynis

    From the looks of your screenshots, 1 file is just in your Q Drive, the other is in the shared folder on your Q drive 😬

    Oh dear, thank you ladies - I appreciate your responses very much!! I've got myself into a pickle alright!

    Yes Shaz @Acctd4 I do have two files going - one is correct (I keep checking upon opening that it's the one I have reconciled up until 30/6/23), the other is 'the stuff up'... How on earth do I get the correct one only showing on the opening screen?

    Kris, @Kris_Williams I followed your advice, but if I found the correct one in my Q:/ folder and open it, it still wants to open from there each time? (And it still shows duplicate names) I'm unsure how to make it my 'rah' file....

    Thank you!! 🙏

    Yes as Shaz mentioned one is in the shared folder. I think the duplicate names you are referring to is just the list of recently opened files, in your case from 2 different directories. If you go to File - open previous company - down the bottom of that menu it says set number of previous companies. Change this to 1

    @GlynisFNQ

    If you move or delete the incorrect Company File, even if it still displays, it won’t be able to be accessed so will prevent using the wrong one accidentally ☺️

    To do this, close out of the file (so you’re in the Open a Company File window) then select a file to open & follow through until you get to the open drive with your files listed …

    To Delete a File:

    • Right-click file line (but not on file name!) to select then press Delete

    To Move a File:

    • Right-click file (but not on file name!) & use arrow keys to move up/down list to select then press Ctrl + X (to cut/copy)
    • Navigate to required area/drive folder then press Ctrl + V (to paste)

    @Kris_Williams , @Acctd4

    Kris and Shaz thank you for always being here!! 😊

    I don't know how I did it but I'm working back in the correct file - I have 'restored' the correct back up file and am now seeing it (renamed nicely) in my Opening window... I have a little backtracking to do but really not too bad...it could always be so much worse!

    I've never had to fall back onto a 'back up' file before... But wow, talk about a VERY good reminder for me to ALWAYS "Back Up"!! 😉

    Have a lovely week,
