For this week's #TipTuesday I've put together a couple of important tips when you're working with Personal Plus and/or Home & Business.

📁 Using your data file

Never work in, or use your data file that you created in OneDrive, Google Drive or any cloud based storage.

Make sure your data file is situated in the top of the root directory of C drive. I usually create a new folder, and call it Reckon Data. You can give the folder any name you like but its important that its in the top level of the C drive.

✍️ Keep your file name less than 8 characters

Another incredibly important tip is around your file name. Keep the name of your data files to 8 characters or less.

When you restore a backup it usually comes back with the date appended to your file name eg. Yourfilenamehere_20240923. I recommend that you rename it to a short name again so that its less than 8 characters in length.

That's interesting Gerry. I've been storing my Reckon Accounts Personal Plus 2022 files for six months on a OneDrive Personal cloud account with no problems after a catastrophic boot disk failure. The file directory is two levels down from the cloud directory and my datafiles are "home quicken data_20240227.***".

Am I stretching my luck with this type of configuration?

Well i guess you have been lucky most people I have to help haven't been so lucky. You can do your backups to OneDrive, no problems. It's just you shouldn't be working in OneDrive because it tends to update itself as you are actually working in the file.

Just make sure you are doing plenty of backing up.
