STP Error from ATO

ATO Messages
The following error messages have been returned from the ATO and need to be reviewed. You may need to make changes in your accounting product before submitting again.

Error message

A text character must be one of the following: A to Z a to z 0 to 9 ! @ $ % & * ( ) - _ = [ ] ; : ' " , . ? / or a space character.

    Please review the Company Details in the file to confirm if any information needs editing before you submit the STP to the ATO. Check the address, postcode, and other details.

    Hi Robyn_9510457,

    Do you have a new employee on this submission?

    Have you checked for invalid characters in employees' field like the address, email address and also the phone number.

    If you are unable to see anything there, you check and validate the JSON file, which should help identify the issue.

    I have found a view errors in the employee fields but still not going through.

    How do I validate the JSON File,

    After finding the errors, have you generated a new STP and submit it again? Are you getting the same error msg?

    Is this a new submission or have already submitted STP successfully in the past?

    I have been generating new STPs and submitting again but still the error.

    This is a new submission new company.

    Very frustrating and no one can help

    @Robyn_9510457 Are you generating a NEW STP file, after making the corrections ?

    The original file will be as it was when exported/uploaded (eg containing the errors) - If you make changes, you need to create a new file to capture those 😊

    Look at your company information and also the employee details. There will be some errant character that you may have missed

    @Robyn_9510457 If it's still not going through, that means there's still format issues somewhere … eg a number where a letter should be (or vice versa), an additional space/character in an email address etc.

    The Company Name in GovConnect is sourced from the ABN Lookup and will be the full registered name, so check that matches too: https://abr.business.gov.au/
