Worker's Comp STP rejected

I received the following error message when I uploaded yesterday's pay run to the ATO. Are you able to advise how I fix this please

The value specified for an item does not match the item type (value = "-727", item type = Decimal, uniqueID = http://www.sbr.gov.au/ato/payevntemp:EmployerContributionsYearToDateA) Hint: The MinInclusive constraint failed.

However in relation to your specific case, if the worker's comp item you're using is a leave item then I'm assuming its for the 'no work performed' method outlined in the above guide, is that correct?

If so, have you entered the worker's comp leave item as a negative value in the pay run that you're submitting? If you have, that will be the cause of the STP rejection. I'm not an accountant so when it comes to the specific details of worker's comp and how to handle your specific case for it, I will defer that to your accountant.

When it comes the Reckon One software though, a leave item cannot be a negative. If you follow the approach outlined in the guide above it will result in a negative balance on the payslip in terms of the leave hours for that worker's comp leave item which is expected, however the balance paid on that leave item cannot be a negative.

That error message is showing there is a value of -727 included in the submission where its not expecting a negative value.

Have you entered an item with a negative balance in this particular pay run submission?

Yes I have found something strange.

It looks like one of our staff who are on work cover is the issue. It looks like STP does not recognise the workcover pay item as gross wages and is therefore showing a negative net pay.

How do I fix this?

No worries, the other thing to check is any initial YTD balance entered in the employee's profile. In looking at that error message, it does refer to payevntemp:EmployerContributionsYearToDateA so I'm assuming that's where it may be.

You'll find this by heading into the employee(s) profile, clicking edit and then selecting Initial YTD (example below). Review if there are any items and balances added here with that negative balance.

Thank you Rav. The issue was that the Worker's Comp Pay Item was not ticked as qualified earnings. Yes this is for Worker's Compensation that is not worked therefore it's classification in leave is correct.

Please note that I had not entered the worker's comp item as a negative. It just wasn't being picked up and included with the gross earnings.

I have resubmitted the update to the ATO and it has gone through successfully now.
