How to generate an new employee number on Recon Hosted
I have just converted over to Reckon Hosted from Payroll Premier. With Pay Premier, the system would allocate an new Employee number(ID) so I didn't have to do this function. With Reckon Hosted, I have to come up with a number. Is there a default on Hosted where it continues to give me sequential numbers for new employees? Just like Payroll Premier?
Thanks
Stacey

Unfortunately not. However, if you run an Employee List Report (eg Employee Contact List), add in the Employee No. column & Sort by this, you can keep track of your numbering sequence π

Yeah it's a bug in the system. Its a pity it hasn't been fixed. Its a requirement for STP

The requirement is for each employee to have a unique number but itβs not a requirement for it to be auto generated, so not a bug but hopefully a feature thatβs in the pipeline.
Would need to have the option to set a starting format/number (maybe in Preferences ?) to allow for various scenarios incl moving from another product where a particular employee number format has already been established.

Yes, it can be frustrating but Payroll Premier is a Payroll-only program which is why it is extensive in that area. You can't manage other areas of your business in it whereas Reckon Accounts on the other hand, is a full accounting program that has integrated payroll functionality.
Unfortunately, no accounting software has the same in-depth level of payroll features as a payroll-only solution π¬

Thank you for your answers, I just don't understand how Payroll Premier has this function but Reckon Hosted doesnt - is annoying especially in a business where we have a constant change of employees.

Yeah that's funny Shaz but not really helpful. The employee number IS a requirement. It could be automated.

Also not helpful Zappy as I stated that the employee number IS a requirement but the automation of it, is not π

You know what we say round here Shaz. "Hopefully" doth butter no parsnips. I mean how hard could it be to automate it?

I don't know if this will help you, Stacey, but it is not mandatary to use numbers for an employee number. This is only meant to be an identifier. I never use numbers, rather, I use alpha characters. In my case I use the first four alpha characters of the employee's surname to which I add their initials. If you have lots of employees, you might want to extend the first four characters of their surname to five or more characters. By doing this there is less chance of a duplication of the "identifier" but there are other variations on a theme that can be used.
By doing it this way, I never have to worry about what the next "numerical" number might be.
