Entering new Employee
When i try setting up a new employee in Reckon Hosted it won`t accept the employee number i enter.

Hi there, this has also happened to me on several occasions and I have definitely not used the numbers before. Usually I only have to try the next number but today I had to keep trying 5 consecutive numbers until it accepted the number as "unique". It's not a problem but I prefer to keep the numbers consecutive. Just wondering if there's a quick fix?

If it doesn't accept it as unique, it means it's definitely allocated on another Employee record. This includes Terminated/Inactive employees so it sounds like that's where it is.
I create an Employee List report & add in the Employee No. column. I then sort it by Employee No. & Memorise it. When a new Employee is hired, you can generate this report to determine your next consecutive Employee No. π

For the record, it is not mandatory for the Employee Number to be numerical. I have only ever used alpha characters, usually on the basis of the first four letters of the surname followed usually by the two initials of their Christian name/s., I have not had any problems in using this approach. I have some clients who use the first few letters of each employee's first & last names to create their unique Employee No.
eg John Smith - Employee No: JOHSMI
(Note: Of course, there may come a point where you have 2 the same if the names are very common! lol)
