Re: #TipTuesday - A Picture Paints A Thousand Words
I hate the snipping tool so will have to go through this with a fine tooth comb
Re: #TipTuesday - A Picture Paints A Thousand Words
The optical character recognition feature of the Snipping Tool that allows for the capture of on-screen text that is able to be pasted into a document as editable text is also a hidden gem.

#TipTuesday - A Picture Paints A Thousand Words
Today's tip is inspired by @Rav first of his name, manager of community and all-round helpful guy.
You may have read his earlier post about How to ask a good question on the Reckon Community 🙋♂️ — Reckon Community
Or another classic gem, How do I add an image or screenshot to my discussion? — Reckon Community
Well just in case you want get back to basics, lets quickly recap how to get that elusive screenshot captured and annotated nicely using the free built-in tools that ships with Windows 11 (or 10 if you have not yet upgraded).
The Windows Snipping Tool
Whilst you do not need to have the reflexes of a cobra or the grace of a gazelle, it's easy to get the snipping tool ready to capture the screen.
- Press Windows logo key + Shift + S for a static image snip
- Press Windows logo key + Shift + R for a video snip
- Press Print Screen (for a static image snip)
Note: If you already have another screen capture tool installed, it may have been assigned the "Print Screen" or "PrtSc" key action.
Add the Snipping Tool to your Windows taskbar
This is good alternative, if you are not fan of keyboard shortcuts.
Type snipping tool in the Search field of the Windows taskbar.
The Snipping Tool app will appear at the top where you can
- Hover the mouse cursor over and right-mouse click to bring up the context menu
- Then select Pin to taskbar
You will then see the Snipping Tool appear in the taskbar for easy access.
There will also be a list of actions you can take.
Start snipping
When launched, the Snipping Tool will let you capture screenshots (or quick video clips) that you can use to give your Community Post question or response that little bit extra, to make it easier to understand and better illustrate your point or concern.
- You can review the settings for the Snipping Tool to explore further what options can be customised.
- You can choose between a static or video recording snip
- You can click the New button to start capturing
There are settings for such things as the default location where clips are stored, whether to add borders to screenshots, etc.
Take note of where screenshots and clips are stored.
You can annotate the screenshot, to highlight key areas, draw some shapes, etc.
The Text actions button also allows you to blur out sensitive information or copy the full text of what is displayed on-screen which can be pasted into your community post as editable text. (Handy for error messages)
Copying the text on screen from a screenshot is also quite useful for other tasks you may have, not just for community posts
Upload Image
Adding an image to your community post, is as easy as pressing CTRL + V (to paste a captured static image)
Or use the add image button at the bottom left corner of the post screen.
Using the '3 dots' icon, you can bring up a quick action to open the screenshots folder.
You can also refer back to the other post, on How do I add an image or screenshot to my discussion? — Reckon Community
Upload File (such as a video clip)
You can add a video clip captured by the Snipping Tool which was saved in the default video folder using the Upload File button.
Remember, a picture paints a thousand words… until next #TipTuesday, bye for now.

Re: Need a fix for Outlook 2019
Hey Kev
Unfortunately, Microsoft have made changes to their authentication policy which has affected webmail access by 3rd party apps (such as Reckon Accounts) to connect with their Hotmail or Outlook.com email service. There's some info around this from Microsoft HERE.
We're investigating our options around webmail with Reckon Accounts Desktop however I'd suggest switching over to the Outlook classic desktop email application instead which, from what I understand, is a free download from the Microsoft App Store. In Reckon Accounts, use the Outlook or Outlook V2 option in your Send Forms settings to use that Outlook app to send out emails with a Hotmail/Outlook.com email account.

Re: new payroll schedule automation
Thanks, Shaz,
I understand your point—if we accumulate leave in hours, it should address the issues we’re experiencing.
Currently, staff accrue 6.33 hours of sick leave, 12.67 hours of holiday leave, and 8.23 hours of RDOs per pay cycle, which is on a monthly basis. How much should they be accruing per hour worked?
Also, our staff are paid using a salary item, and we’ve never had to focus on the hours column. They receive the same amount each month (assuming no leave without pay). Assuming no LWP, how many hours should I allocate as their monthly working hours?
They work a 38 hour week and two hours extra a week for their RDOs
Re: CHANGING NAME DETAILS IN EXISTING PAYROLL (NEW OWNER)
Hi Rav,
Thanks for your quick reply.
I thought as much that all I had to do was edit the contact details but I wanted to be sure that was the right thing to do.
Your help is appreciated as always. 😊
Re: CHANGING NAME DETAILS IN EXISTING PAYROLL (NEW OWNER)
Morning @JEN
Yes, you can update the Company Details section in Reckon Payroll with the new contact details. This will also flow into the companion Reckon One book as well.
If they would like to update the sign-in email address, MFA and/or payment method that is currently associated with the account, they can do so by heading over to https://portal.reckon.com/. Sign in with the existing login for Reckon Payroll then click on Profile in the top right corner.

Re: Best way to record a new motor vehicle purchase?
You’re very welcome Denise, always happy to help
Re: Windows update ate my company file
Thanks Kris - yeah I've learned my lesson. I'm so angry with Microsoft though - apparently it's a common problem after updates … and they offer no solution.
Re: Windows update ate my company file
have you searched for *.qbb and *.qbw on entire computer? Looked in recycle bin?
I understand your anxiety, unfortunately it means work, but you’ll never not backup again- and in more than one place, USB’s and other folders.
