Inventory amount is not valid

We have an error in one of our Inventory Item list. Everything looks good in the item. Link a/c
gross cost sales amount etc. but when I go to close the screen the error comes up that this is not valid and also the amount is not valid. I have re-entered the amounts. tried to make the item inactive. This error has caused our BS in Stock and respective accounts to go into OVERFLOW. Have spent 4.5 hrs on the phone combined with Reckon support and POS support, with no outcome. Had to send all info to data recovery. Still waiting it has now been 4 days. I am the one who as recognised the item that is causing all the problems but been told it is not that. !!!!!
Has anybody else come across this and how was it fixed. ?

Try creating a new item then merge the old item into the new one . ..
